Festivals in Jeonbuk

Jeonbuk's festivals begin in spring: Gochang's green barley fields hold a festival from mid-April into May, and at the turn of April and May Namwon's Chunhyang Festival celebrates Korea's best-known love story while the Jeonju International Film Festival screens independent cinema for ten days. In late August or early September the firefly festival comes to Muju's mountains. Jeonbuk is also Korea's rice bowl, and autumn brings the Gimje horizon festival on the Honam plain in early October, Jeonju's bibimbap festival, Gochang's Moyangseong Festival, where visitors walk the fortress wall with a stone on their heads, a jjamppong festival in Gunsan's old port, chrysanthemums in Iksan in late October and two evenings of makgeolli in Jeonju in late October or early November. In November, Sunchang, the home of gochujang, holds a two-day tteokbokki festival, and the highland county of Jinan holds a kimchi-and-bossam weekend.
