Festivals in Ulsan

Ulsan, on the south-east coast between Busan and Gyeongju, holds the Ulsan Whale Festival at Jangsaengpo, a former whaling port that is now Korea's only whale-culture district: four free days in late September or October, with a whale parade and fireworks. On the fourth weekend of October the Jung-gu Heritage Night lights up Dongheon, the Joseon-era magistrate's office, and the Byeongyeongseong army fortress for three evenings. Trains from Bujeon Station in Busan reach Taehwagang Station, downtown, in about 40 to 70 minutes, which puts the Busan International Film Festival, the Jagalchi Festival and the November fireworks over Gwangalli Beach within easy reach. Gyeongju, also nearby, holds a cherry blossom festival in late March or early April and the Silla Culture Festival in early to mid October.
