What it is like
Busan has run the Busan Sea Festival since 1996 as its main summer event: a week or a long weekend of fireworks, beach-pub nights and free concerts at the height of the swimming season. For most of its history it was spread across the city's beaches. In 2017 Haeundae, Gwangalli, Songjeong, Songdo and Dadaepo all had events, and in 2005 the programme even included the Busan International Rock Festival at Dadaepo. The 2023 edition used Haeundae and Dadaepo; since 2024 the festival has been concentrated on Dadaepo Beach in Saha-gu, the wide, shallow beach where the Nakdong River meets the sea at the end of Metro Line 1, known for its sunsets.
The format is now settled. Opening night, a Friday, brings the Dadae Fireworks Show, fired from barges as the sun goes down: 17 minutes from three barges at 20:00 in 2026. For the whole run, Dadaepocha, a beer-and-food tent area of about 2,000 seats laid out on the sand, is the social hub, with a stage for pop and indie acts (Heize and Paul Kim in 2026). A Sunset Beach Club with DJs fills the first weekend, ten Busan universities take over for a two-day student zone, and the last evenings close with a folk-rock concert and an open-air choir concert at sunset. Children get a fountain playground, and local sellers run a second-hand beach market.
Entry is free; you pay for food and drink and for a few programmes. KTO listed the 2026 hours as 11:00–22:00.
The honest caveats: Dadaepo is at the far south-western end of the city, a long subway ride from Haeundae and Gwangalli, where most visitors stay. On opening night the sand is capped (about 35,000 people in 2025 and 2026) and late arrivals are sent to a nearby trail to watch; a lane of Dadae-ro and the public car parks close from 16:00. Sea fireworks depend on the weather: in 2024 a typhoon high-wave warning moved the show from the first night to the last. Programmes are in Korean, and the detailed timetable appears only about a week before opening.
Highlights
- Dadae Fireworks Show on opening night: 20:00 on 7 Aug 2026, 17 minutes from three barges, timed to the Dadaepo sunset
- Dadaepocha, a beach pub on the sand with about 2,000 seats, open for the whole festival and billed by the city as the country's largest
- Sunset Beach Club (7–9 Aug 2026): an open-air beach club with house DJs, a lounge, wellness and fitness sessions and DIY perfume making
- Pub-stage concerts on 8–9 Aug 2026 with Heize, Paul Kim, OOPS, GETZ, Band Girin and Talkappella
- Student zone 청춘해(海)방구역 (10–11 Aug 2026): ten Busan universities run pubs and stages, with rappers Yang Hong-won and Han Yo-han
- Sunset concerts to close: the Dadaepo Folk Rock Concert (12 Aug 2026, 19:30) and the Open Sea Open Concert with children's choirs (13 Aug, 19:00)
- Dadae Beach Market of second-hand goods and upcycling booths, plus a fountain playground for children
Who it suits. Best for travellers in Busan in late July or August who want a free night out on a beach, with sunset fireworks, a big beer-and-food tent and pop and indie concerts, and for anyone who finds Haeundae too crowded. Less suited to visitors based in Haeundae or Gwangalli with little time (Dadaepo is at the opposite end of the city), or to people who dislike crowds on opening night, when the sand is capped at about 35,000 people.
Getting there
From Seoul
KTX from Seoul Station to Busan Station, about 2 h 30 m (₩54,400 standard class on the fare table in force since the 1 September 2026 KTX–SRT merger). Then take Busan Metro Line 1 from Busan Station (station 113) south-west, with no change, 18 stops to the terminus, Dadaepo Beach Station (095). Leave by Exit 4, which comes out by the Dream Sunset Fountain a couple of minutes from the sand.
From Busan
Busan Metro Line 1 to its south-western terminus, Dadaepo Beach Station, Exit 4; the exit comes out by the Dream Sunset Fountain at the back of the beach, about 2 minutes on foot from the sand (NOL World). Jagalchi, Nampo and Busan Station are on the same line. From Haeundae or Gwangalli, take Line 2 to Seomyeon and change to Line 1 towards Dadaepo.
From Incheon Airport
Domestic flight from Incheon to Gimhae (Busan), then the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail three stops to Sasang, Metro Line 2 to Seomyeon and Line 1 south to Dadaepo Beach; or AREX to Seoul Station, the KTX to Busan Station and Line 1 straight to Dadaepo Beach.
Last leg from Dadaepo Beach Station
Busan Metro Line 1 (terminus), Exit 4. About 2–5 minutes on foot to the sand; Exit 4 comes out by the Dream Sunset Fountain
Festival shuttle
No festival shuttle was announced in the 2024–2026 notices opened; Busan city asks visitors to come by public transport.
Getting home
Busan Metro last-train times from Dadaepo Beach were not checked; the station is the start of Line 1. Back to Seoul, the KTX from Busan Station takes about 2 h 30 m; last-train times for the 2027 festival dates were not checked, so check the last KTX in the Korail app (코레일+ / Korail+) or at Busan Station before the festival day. Busan Station is 18 stops away on Line 1, so after the 20:00 fireworks or the 19:00–19:30 sunset concerts, staying the night in Busan is the safe plan.
Parking
Very limited on festival days. In 2025 and 2026 one lane of Dadae-ro and three nearby public car parks were closed from 16:00 on opening day (in 2024 the lane was closed and car-park entry restricted), and Busan city strongly recommends public transport.
How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English
Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.
Before you go
1330 · Travel hotline
The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.
112 / 119 · Emergencies
112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.
T-money card
Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.
Maps
Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.
Trains and buses
Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

- Booking
- No booking is needed for the beach or the fireworks. Paid or capacity-limited programmes (such as the 2025 Sunset Beach Club) are announced on the official site (festivalbusan.com/seafestival) shortly before the festival; booking channels and whether they take foreign cards were not confirmed.
- English on site
- Busan city publishes English and Japanese event listings for the festival; programmes and stage talk are in Korean, and no on-site interpretation was documented.
- Crowds
- Busiest on opening night, when the sand is capped (32,000 people in 2024, about 35,000 in 2025 and 2026) and later arrivals are sent to the Gouni Ecological Trail. Weekend concert nights are also busy and weekdays calmer. Busan city counted 841,000 visitors across its seven beaches on the last weekend of July 2025.
- Best time to go
- Opening night for the sunset fireworks: arrive one to two hours before sunset to get onto the sand before the cap is reached. Weekday evenings are calmer for the beach pub and the 19:00–19:30 sunset concerts.
- What to bring
- A mat or beach towel, mosquito repellent, water, sunscreen and a change of clothes if children will play in the fountains; a light layer for the evening breeze.
- Rain
- The sea fireworks depend on the weather: in 2024 a high-wave warning from Typhoon Gaemi kept the barges in port and the opening-night show was moved to the last day, while the other programmes went ahead.
- Toilets
- Dadaepo Beach has public restrooms (KTO listing).
- Step-free access
- The Hanbada festival for people with disabilities is part of the programme (Blue Park Hanbada, 11:00–14:00 in 2024; held again in 2025). Step-free routes onto the sand and accessible toilets were not documented.
- Pets
- Dogs had their own programmes in recent years: 'SUP with your dog' in 2024 and the Sunset Meong Park pet zone in 2025. General rules for dogs at the festival were not stated.

Questions travelers ask
When is the Busan Sea Festival 2027?
Not announced as of 19 October 2026. Recent editions opened on a Friday between late July and mid-August (26–28 July 2024, 1–3 August 2025, 7–13 August 2026), and Busan city published the full programme about a week before opening, so watch for an announcement in July or early August 2027.
Where is the Busan Sea Festival held?
At Dadaepo Beach in Saha-gu, western Busan, since 2024. It used to be spread across several beaches: Haeundae, Gwangalli, Songjeong, Songdo and Dadaepo in 2017, and Haeundae plus Dadaepo in 2023.
Is the Busan Sea Festival free?
Yes. The beach, the fireworks and the concerts are free; you pay for food and drink at the Dadaepocha beach pub and for a few programmes (the 2025 Sunset Beach Club was paid). KTO listed the 2026 festival as free with some paid items, open 11:00–22:00.
What time are the Busan Sea Festival fireworks?
On opening night only. In 2026 the Dadae Fireworks Show started at 20:00 on 7 August and ran 17 minutes from three barges; in 2025 it started at 19:45. In 2024 a typhoon high-wave warning moved the show from the first night to the last.
How do I get to Dadaepo Beach?
Take Busan Metro Line 1 to its south-western terminus, Dadaepo Beach Station, and use Exit 4, which comes out by the Dream Sunset Fountain a couple of minutes from the sand. From Busan Station it is the same line, 18 stops with no change; from Haeundae or Gwangalli, change from Line 2 at Seomyeon.
Is this the same as the Busan Fireworks Festival?
No. The Busan Fireworks Festival is a separate one-night show over Gwangalli Beach in November. The Sea Festival's fireworks are a shorter show (17 minutes in 2026) on its own opening night at Dadaepo.
How crowded is opening night?
Very. The sand is capped for safety (32,000 people in 2024, about 35,000 in 2025 and 2026); once it is full, people are directed to the nearby Gouni Ecological Trail to watch. One lane of Dadae-ro and nearby public car parks close from 16:00, so come by subway.
What is the weather like during Busan Sea Festival?
July in Busan: average high 28 °C (82 °F), low 22 °C (72 °F), 327 mm of rain (Busan station, KMA 1991–2020 normals). August in Busan: average high 30 °C (85 °F), low 24 °C (75 °F), 267 mm of rain (Busan station, KMA 1991–2020 normals). Hot, humid and the wettest time of year: light clothes, a rain jacket or umbrella, and water.

What we could not confirm
- The official festival site (festivalbusan.com/seafestival) could not be opened from this environment, so the full 2026 day-by-day timetable, Dadaepocha opening hours and food prices, and prices of any paid 2026 programmes were not read from it.
- Whether the 2026 Sunset Beach Club was paid, as it was in 2025, and at what price.
- No official 2026 visitor total was found.
- Busan Metro journey time from Busan Station to Dadaepo Beach (18 stops on Line 1) and Line 1 last-train times from Dadaepo Beach were not sourced, so trip.minutes is null.
- Simplified and Traditional Chinese official names not confirmed (Busan city's Japanese page gives 釜山海祭り).
- 2027 dates and venue not announced as of 19 October 2026; whether the festival stays at Dadaepo alone is not known.
- Edition count: 22nd in 2017 and 30th in 2026 imply one year without a counted edition (probably during COVID-19); not confirmed.
- Coordinates from the KTO festival listing (35.0470, 128.9662); the KTO Dadaepo Beach listing gives 35.0462, 128.9632.
- Last KTX back from Busan Station to Seoul on the 2027 festival dates under the timetable in force that day.
