What it is like
Once a year on a Saturday in early November, Busan turns Gwangalli Beach into a viewing stand for an hour of fireworks launched from barges in the bay and from the Gwangan Bridge, the suspension bridge that frames the beach. The festival began in 2005 as a fireworks show marking the APEC summit held in the city, and is now the country's best-known fireworks event: the city counted about 1.03 million people in 2024 and 1.17 million in 2025, spread across Gwangalli, Haeundae and the Hwangnyeongsan hilltop.
The show has a set structure. A 15-minute set by an invited overseas company (a Japanese family firm in 2025, a Chinese company in 2024) is followed by the Busan Multi Fireworks Show, a 20–35-minute piece by Hanwha synchronised to music, with effects fired from the bridge deck. Afternoon pre-events such as busking and photo zones fill the beach from about 13:00.
Most people watch for free from the sand, the promenade or satellite viewing areas at Igidae and Dongbaekseom. A ticketed zone on the sand in front of the Aqua Palace and Homers hotels sells table seats (R, ₩100,000) and chair seats (S, ₩70,000).
The honest caveats: the free beach starts filling from late morning, the night is cold and windy, and leaving is slow, with Gwangan Station jammed after the show. The display itself is short; the day is mostly waiting.
Highlights
- Main fireworks show 19:00–20:00 on 7 November 2026, with a 10-minute intermission planned for 19:15–19:25
- Fireworks launched from barges and from the Gwangan Bridge itself (the 2025 show used a 'catch-ball' effect between the bridge and the barges)
- Two-part program: a 15-minute invited overseas show (Japan's Hibikiya in 2025) followed by the Busan Multi Fireworks Show by Hanwha
- Free official viewing areas at Igidae coastal park and Dongbaekseom (Haeundae) in addition to the beach
- Paid R and S seats on the sand in front of the Hotel Aqua Palace and Homers Hotel; entry from 15:00
- Afternoon pre-events on the beach from about 13:00 (busking, photo zones, Black Eagles flypast listed by KTO)
Who it suits. Best for couples, photographers and anyone already in Busan in early November; less suited to small children or people who dislike dense crowds, because about a million people pack the 1.4 km beach and nearby streets and leaving afterwards is slow, with long queues at Gwangan Station.
Getting there
From Seoul
KTX from Seoul Station to Busan Station (about 2 h 30 m, ₩54,400), then Busan Metro Line 1 to Seomyeon and Line 2 east to Gwangan Station; leave by Exit 3 and walk down to the beachfront. Allow about 40–50 minutes from Busan Station to the beach, including the transfer and the walk.
From Busan
Metro Line 2 to Gwangan Station, Exit 3, then walk to the beach; or city buses 38, 42, 49, 62, 83, 83-1 or 108 to the Gwangalli Beach stop. For Igidae: Line 2 to Kyungsung Univ.·Pukyong Nat'l Univ. Station then bus 24, 27, 39, 131, Namgu 2 or Namgu 8 to Igidae Entrance. For Dongbaekseom: Line 2 Dongbaek Station Exit 1 or buses 139, 307, 1003. On festival day roads around Gwangalli, including Igidae Gongwon-ro, close to traffic and city buses near the beach are diverted; the city usually publishes the plan a few days before the festival, and the 2026 plan had not been published by 27 October.
From Incheon Airport
The practical route is rail: AREX to Seoul Station and KTX to Busan (about 3 h 30 m rail time in total), then the metro as from Seoul. Incheon–Gimhae flights are few and are mostly sold as connections for international transfer passengers; with one of those, take the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail from Gimhae Airport to Sasang and Metro Line 2 east to Gwangan.
Last leg from Gwangan Station
Busan Metro Line 2, Exit 3. About 10 minutes on foot south to the beachfront
Festival shuttle
The official location guide mentions no festival shuttle. NOL World sold a paid shuttle-and-seat package (pickups 15:00 at Busan Station Exit 6 and 15:20 at Lotte Department Store near Seomyeon Exit 7), which showed as unavailable on 21 October. The organizer provides no parking and asks visitors to use public transport. In 2024 and 2025 the city concentrated extra buses on routes near the venue; the 2026 bus plan had not been published by 27 October.
Getting home
Gwangan Station is jammed after the 20:00 finale. Locals walk one stop west to Geumnyeonsan Station or one stop east to Suyeong Station (both Line 2), or wait about 30 minutes on the beach before moving. In 2024 and 2025 the plan was to add empty trains at Suyeong, Gwangan and Geumnyeonsan and to let trains skip some stations if crowding became dangerous; 2025 had 200 extra runs on Lines 1–3. No 2026 plan had been published by 27 October; do not assume last trains are extended. Back to Seoul: the KTX from Busan Station to Seoul Station takes about 2 h 30 m. Korail's new timetable starts on 1 November and the 7 November last train could not be checked, so check the last train in the Korail+ app (코레일+) or at the station before you go, and book your return in advance; those tickets are already on sale. Allow at least an hour from Gwangalli to Busan Station (Line 2 to Seomyeon, then Line 1).
Parking
None. The organizer states that no parking is available near the festival area and expects heavy traffic on the day. Roads close too: on festival day the beachfront road (Gwangan Haebyeon-ro), the Gwangan Bridge and roads around Gwangalli, Hwangnyeongsan, Millak and Igidae close to cars in stages, after lane closures on the bridge for set-up in the days before. The city usually publishes the plan a few days before the festival; the 2026 plan had not been published by 27 October.
How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English
Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.
Before you go
1330 · Travel hotline
The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.
112 / 119 · Emergencies
112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.
T-money card
Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.
Maps
Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.
Trains and buses
Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

- Crowds
- Extremely crowded: about 1.03 million people in 2024 and 1.17 million in 2025. Free beach spots go from late morning; arrive at least 3–4 hours before the show. In 2024 and 2025 the city capped numbers on the beach and the seafront road, with plans to hold people back in stages and send them on detours once capacity was passed. The 2024 plan was also to close Gwangalli completely at the final limit, and to let people on the seafront road leave first after the show, then those on the sand.
- Best time to go
- For a mat spot on the sand, NOL World's festival guide advises arriving between 10:00 and 12:00; a Korean viewing guide says to reach the beach at least 3–4 hours before the show (by 15:00–16:00) to be safe. Paid seats open at 15:00 and must be occupied by 18:00.
- What to bring
- Mat, warm jacket or padding, blanket, hand warmers and a hot drink (early-November nights by the sea are cold); tripod and power bank for photos; a photo ID with a Busan address if claiming the resident discount.
- Step-free access
- Wheelchair spaces exist in the paid zone but no seat is provided; they can only be booked by phone on 1544-1555 (NOL, 09:00–18:00), and wheelchair users enter through a separate gate.

Before or after the festival
Places you can fit in before or after the festival without missing the shuttle or the last train or bus back.
A small camellia- and pine-covered island joined to the west end of Haeundae Beach, with a coastal path past Nurimaru APEC House, built for the 2005 APEC summit. Best for reserved-seat holders or a group with someone holding the mat spot (free sand fills from late morning). Walk it in the morning (Nurimaru 09:00–18:00, last entry 17:00, free), then ride back by early afternoon: seats open at 15:00 and must be taken by 18:00. Dongbaekseom is also an official satellite viewing area.
Getting there: Metro Line 2 from Gwangan to Dongbaek Station (5 stops east, about 10 min), then walk from Exit 1
- Igidae Coastal Walk (이기대 해안산책로)Before
A cliff-top coastal trail of about 4.7 km in Nam-gu, past rock platforms and coves, with the best side-on view of Gwangan Bridge; it runs to the Oryukdo Skywalk. A morning walk only: start at the Dongsaengmal end nearest Gwangalli and turn back when you need to, so you are on the beach or in your seat by early afternoon. The park road closes to traffic and buses are diverted on festival day, so heading from Igidae to the beach in the evening is the wrong way round.
Getting there: Line 2 to Kyungsung Univ.·Pukyong Nat'l Univ. Station, then bus 24, 27, 39 or 131 (or Namgu 2/8) to Igidae Entrance; free
- Getting awayAfter
Gwangan Station is jammed after the 20:00 finale. Walk one stop west to Geumnyeonsan or one stop east to Suyeong (both Line 2), or wait about 30 minutes on the beach before moving. Going back to Seoul the same night, allow at least an hour from Gwangalli to Busan Station and book the KTX in advance.
Questions travelers ask
When is the Busan Fireworks Festival 2026?
Saturday 7 November 2026. The fireworks run 19:00–20:00 at Gwangalli Beach with a 10-minute intermission planned for 19:15–19:25; pre-events start in the afternoon (KTO lists 13:00–20:00).
Is the Busan Fireworks Festival free?
Yes for the beach, promenade, Igidae and Dongbaekseom. Only the reserved zone on the sand is ticketed: ₩70,000 for an S chair seat, ₩100,000 for an R table seat.
How do I buy Busan Fireworks Festival tickets as a foreigner?
The organizer sells reserved seats through NOL Ticket in Korea and NOL World (world.nol.com) for overseas buyers, from 4 September 14:00 until 6 November 17:00; NOL World allows up to 4 regular tickets per person. NOL World tickets are for international visitors only and need your passport at pickup. Tickets bought after 11 October are collected at the venue; someone else can collect them with a copy of your ID and the booking confirmation.
Which subway station is closest to Gwangalli Beach for the fireworks?
Gwangan Station on Busan Metro Line 2, Exit 3. Igidae is reached from Kyungsung Univ.·Pukyong Nat'l Univ. Station (Line 2) plus a bus; Dongbaekseom from Dongbaek Station (Line 2), Exit 1.
How crowded is it and how do I get home afterwards?
About 1.17 million people attended in 2025. Gwangan Station is jammed after 20:00; walk one stop west to Geumnyeonsan or one stop east to Suyeong Station, or wait on the beach for about 30 minutes before leaving. In 2024 and 2025 the plan allowed trains to pass some of these stations without stopping if crowding became dangerous.
Where are the best free spots to watch?
Gwangalli Beach itself (arrive by late morning for a spot on the sand, and at the latest 3–4 hours before the show), Millak Waterside Park and the Igidae coastal trail for side views of the bridge, the Hwangnyeongsan lookout for a city-wide view (go up on foot: its road closes to cars on festival day), and Dongbaekseom in Haeundae for a quieter angle.
Can I park near Gwangalli during the festival?
No. The organizer states that no parking is available near the festival area and asks everyone to use public transport. On festival day the beachfront road and the Gwangan Bridge close to cars in stages; the city usually publishes the plan a few days before, and the 2026 plan had not been published by 27 October.
Can I watch the Busan Fireworks Festival from a yacht?
Yes. For 2025 the authorities expected about 6,000 people on some 170 vessels off Gwangalli (5 international passenger ships, 7 licensed pleasure boats and about 160 yachts and small boats), and the Coast Guard planned to deploy 14 vessels. As of 21 October 2026 neither the organizer nor the Busan Coast Guard had published 2026 rules for boats, and none of the yacht listings we checked on 21 October (Klook, Trazy, Seoul Travel Pass, Bluewing) offered a 7 November trip with times and a price.
How much does a fireworks-night yacht cost, and how do I book one?
None of the yacht listings we checked on 21 October gave a 2026 price. On festival day in 2024 fares were reported from the high ₩100,000s to the mid ₩200,000s per person, against ₩20,000–30,000 on a normal weekend. Trazy's Gwangalli night tour lists only regular sailings, Klook's Yacht G tour showed as unavailable, and the 502-passenger 'Grace' fireworks cruise from the Busan Coastal Passenger Terminal shows its own onboard fireworks (May–June), not the festival. Book only a listing that names 7 November, and check the boarding pier and gate (Suyeongman Yacht Marina is under redevelopment until 2027), the boat's capacity and the refund if the show is postponed.
What time do fireworks-night yachts sail?
None of the yacht listings we checked on 21 October gave 2026 sailing times. As a guide, for the 2024 festival Bluewing sold a shared yacht from the Gwangalli Ocean Leports Center with a 17:00 meeting time and a 17:40–20:30 sailing, around the 19:00–20:00 show, for ₩200,000 per person; ID and a boarding form filled in on site were required. Its terms gave a full refund up to seven days before (less after that, nothing from the day before) or if the trip was cancelled for bad weather. The 2026 show runs 19:00–20:00, so a festival-night trip has to sail before 19:00.
What is the weather like at Busan Fireworks Festival in November?
November in Busan: average high 17 °C (62 °F), low 8 °C (47 °F), 50 mm of rain (Busan station, KMA 1991–2020 normals). Mild days, cold evenings: a jacket for after dark.

What we could not confirm
- Whether the domestic NOL Ticket checkout accepts non-Korean cards (the organizer points overseas buyers to NOL World)
- Name of the invited overseas fireworks company for 7 Nov 2026
- 2026 subway, bus and road-closure plan: not published as of 27 Oct 2026 (in 2024 and 2025 the city announced it 4–5 days before the festival); add the 2026 closure and diversion times only once Busan city or police publish them
- Neither Wikimedia Commons file page could be opened from this environment (the 21 Oct 2026 audit got 'not found' for File:The_Busan_International_Fireworks_Festival.jpg and File:2012_Gwangalli_Beach.jpg); check both in a browser, confirm author and licence, and replace the photo if a file no longer exists. The 2012 Gwangalli Beach attribution was copied from a blog's credit line
- Whether Gwangan Station Exit 5 is also used for festival crowds (the official page lists Exit 3 only)
- Lat/lng taken from the KTO listing map (35.1538, 129.1185); Wikipedia gives 35.1542, 129.1206 for the beach
- Last train back from Busan Station to Seoul and Suseo on 7 Nov 2026 under the Korail timetable from 1 Nov 2026: not verified on 27 Oct 2026 (Korail's pages were not opened and no press release or news report found gave it; tickets for that day are on sale).
- Remaining R/S seat availability: the NOL Ticket page shows no seat count, and no sell-out had been reported by 19 Oct 2026.
- Festival-night (7 Nov 2026) yacht trips: none of the listings checked on 21 Oct 2026 (Klook, Trazy, Seoul Travel Pass, Bluewing) offered times and a price; NOL World's festival guide mentions an 'Ocean Yacht Tour' needing advance booking, without details; the 2026 Coast Guard rules for boats (viewing zones, cut-off) were not published
- Bluewing's 2024 yacht page (meeting and sailing times, fare and refund terms in the sailing-times FAQ) could not be reopened during the 21 Oct 2026 audit; recheck it in a browser, and if it cannot be read keep only that 2024 festival-night shared yachts sailed from late afternoon until after the show
