What it is like

Yeongdo Bridge (영도대교) links Nampo-dong, Busan's old downtown, with the island of Yeongdo across the harbour. When it opened in 1934 it was Korea's first drawbridge, a steel bridge 214.7 m long and 18 m wide with a span that lifted to let ships through. Its official name was Busan Bridge, but locals always called it Yeongdo Bridge, and that became its official name once a new Busan Bridge was built nearby. During the Korean War, refugees who had lost their families used it as a meeting point; it was raised seven times a day, and fortune-tellers set up stalls around it. Lifting stopped in 1966. After widening and restoration work from 2007, the bridge reopened in November 2013, and its 31 m, 590-ton span again rises to 75 degrees in about two minutes. Until October 2026 it was raised every Saturday at 14:00; that lift was suspended from 10 October 2026 after faults were found in the drive equipment.

The Yeongdo-gu district office has held a festival in the bridge's name every year, run by the Yeongdo Culture Center; 2026 is the 34th edition. It is a local festival, not a big production, and it is now split between two sites. The Bongnae-dong lighter wharf (물양장), at the Yeongdo end of the bridge, has the opening ceremony and a retro programme about the bridge's past: a 'Memories of Black Rubber Shoes' stage show, a silent-film cinema, a Yeongdo Memory Alley, busking, a K-pop dance gala and a retro EDM party, plus a food zone, flea market and craft-beer rest area. Amir Park, next to the National Maritime Museum in Dongsam-dong, has the closing ceremony, the Yeongdo Bridge song contest, a star-chef cooking show, magic and bubble shows, a 'Hidden Singer' special concert, a children's festival and eco-friendly activities.

Entry is free, and KTO lists the hours as 10:00–20:00. The bridge lift would normally be the main free sight nearby, but the Saturday 14:00 lift was suspended from 10 October 2026 for inspection and repairs, and no restart date had been announced by 27 October, so do not plan the festival Saturday around it.

The honest caveats: everything is in Korean, the two sites are a bus ride apart, and the day-by-day timetable had not been published by 18 October 2026. Past editions have been held anywhere from early September to the end of October, and the 2024 and 2025 editions could not be verified.

Highlights

  • A festival built around Yeongdo Bridge, Korea's first drawbridge (1934), which KTO describes as the only drawbridge festival in Korea; the span lifted again from 2013
  • Free, three days, 30 October–1 November 2026, 10:00–20:00 (KTO), on two sites: the Bongnae-dong wharf beside the bridge and Amir Park by the National Maritime Museum
  • Retro programme at the Bongnae-dong wharf: a 'Memories of Black Rubber Shoes' stage show, a silent-film cinema, the Yeongdo Memory Alley and a retro EDM party
  • Amir Park: Yeongdo Bridge song contest, a star-chef cooking show, a 'Hidden Singer' special concert, a children's festival and eco-friendly activities
  • The regular Saturday 14:00 bridge lift has been suspended since 10 October 2026 for repairs; no restart date had been announced by 27 October
  • Food zone, flea market, craft-beer and snack rest zone and food trucks, plus a Yeongdo Bridge memory mailbox

Who it suits. Best for travellers already in Busan on 30 October–1 November 2026 who want a free local festival combined with Nampo-dong's markets and the National Maritime Museum; less suited to anyone who needs English-language programmes, or who would travel from Seoul just for this festival.

Getting there

From Seoul

KTX from Seoul Station to Busan Station, about 2 h 30 m (₩54,400 standard class on the fare table in force since the 1 September 2026 KTX–SRT merger). Then take Busan Metro Line 1 two stops south to Nampo Station and leave by Exit 6: Yeongdo Bridge is on your right, and the Bongnae-dong wharf site is across it at the Yeongdo end. For Amir Park, take city bus 66 or 186 from Nampo Station Exit 6 to the National Maritime Museum (국립해양박물관) stop.

From Busan

Busan Metro Line 1 to Nampo Station, Exit 6; turn right and walk across Yeongdo Bridge to the Bongnae-dong wharf. For Amir Park, take bus 66 or 186 from the stop at Nampo Station Exit 6 to the National Maritime Museum stop; bus 66 is also listed from Busan Station.

From Incheon Airport

Domestic flight from Incheon to Gimhae (Busan), then the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail three stops to Sasang, Metro Line 2 to Seomyeon and Line 1 to Nampo (about an hour from the airport to the city centre). Or take AREX to Seoul Station and the KTX to Busan Station, then Line 1 two stops to Nampo.

Last leg from Nampo Station

Busan Metro Line 1, Exit 6. Turn right out of Exit 6 for Yeongdo Bridge and cross the 214.7 m bridge on foot to the Bongnae-dong wharf; for Amir Park take bus 66 or 186 from Exit 6 to the National Maritime Museum stop

Festival shuttle

No shuttle between the two sites was announced on the pages opened. City buses 66 and 186 link Nampo Station Exit 6, near the bridge, with the National Maritime Museum stop next to Amir Park.

Getting home

The programme ends at 20:00 (KTO). Nampo is two stops from Busan Station on Line 1; from Amir Park, allow time for the bus back to Nampo first. The KTX from Busan Station to Seoul Station takes about 2 h 30 m. A new KTX timetable takes effect on 1 November 2026, the festival's last day, and last-train times for the festival dates were not verified, so check the last train in the Korail app (코레일+) or at Busan Station before the festival day.

Parking

No festival parking information was published. The Korea National Maritime Museum car park next to Amir Park charges ₩2,000 for the first 3 hours, then ₩100 per 10 minutes, up to ₩10,000 a day (travel-site figures; whether it takes festival traffic is not stated). There is no parking at Yeongdo Bridge for its lifting events, and Busan city asks visitors to come by public transport.

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English

Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.

Before you go

1330 · Travel hotline

The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.

112 / 119 · Emergencies

112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.

T-money card

Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.

Maps

Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.

Trains and buses

Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

A cliffside village on Yeongdo built by Korean War refugees and turned into an artists' village from 2011, with murals, small cafés and an observatory above the Jeolyeong Coastal Path, which runs about 3 km along the sea; The Attorney was filmed here. It is free and open all year (visitor centre 10:00–18:00), so it fits a late morning before the afternoon programme at the Bongnae-dong wharf. Get off at the stop at the top of the village by the observatory and walk down.

Getting there: City bus 6, 7, 9, 71, 82, 85 or 508 from the Yeongdo Bridge stops to the Huinnyeoul Culture Village stop, about 20 min

It is open 09:00–18:00 on Friday 30 October and 09:00–19:00 at the weekend (closed Mondays), so it fills the time before the Amir Park evening shows. Getting there: Next to the Amir Park site, on foot; from Nampo Station Exit 6, bus 66 or 186 to the National Maritime Museum stop

  • Jagalchi Market (자갈치시장)After

It is open 05:00–22:00 (closed on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Tuesdays, none of them festival days), so it works for dinner after the 20:00 close at the Bongnae-dong wharf. Nampo Station on Line 1, two stops from Busan Station, is close by for the way back.

Getting there: On foot back across Yeongdo Bridge to the Nampo-dong side, then along the waterfront; free

What we could not confirm

  • 2024 (32nd) and 2025 (33rd) dates and programmes were not found: web searches returned no organizer notice or news for either year. The edition numbering implies both were held.
  • First held 1993 is derived from the edition numbers (24th in 2016, 27th in 2019, 31st in 2023, 34th in 2026), not from an organizer statement.
  • The organizer's festival page (yeongdo.go.kr/ydfestival.web) was not opened; the 2026 dates rest on the KTO TourAPI listing (modified 15 Oct 2026) and two pages that mirror it.
  • The 2026 day-by-day timetable was not published as of 18 October 2026: which days each site runs, the opening and closing ceremony times, and what the 10:00–20:00 'performance hours' cover.
  • Whether the Saturday bridge lift, suspended from 10 October 2026 (YTN, KNN, 9 Oct 2026), resumes before 31 October; no restart notice was found on 29 October. Busan city's 2026 event page shows an opening ceremony with a fireworks show in its image caption, but the ministry listing does not mention fireworks and no time was published, so it is not on the page.
  • Coordinates are KTO's and point to the National Maritime Museum and Amir Park; Bongnae-dong wharf coordinates and the distance or travel time between the two sites were not published.
  • Bus routes 66 and 186 come from travel sites; bus journey times and the walking time across the bridge were not published.
  • No official Japanese or Chinese name for the festival was found; Busan city's Chinese pages use 影島大橋 for the bridge.
  • The rail fare was copied from the site's Busan Fireworks Festival record (Korail fare table effective 1 Sep 2026). Last-train times were removed on 21 Oct 2026 because they could not be verified for the festival dates.
  • Restrooms, accessibility, rain policy, pets, foreign-card acceptance, parking during the festival and visitor numbers were not published.
  • Last train back on the festival date under the timetable in force that day (Busan to Seoul Station, new KTX timetable from 1 Nov 2026).
  • Huinnyeoul Culture Village: the 20-minute bus ride is Busan Navi's figure from the Yeongdo Bridge entrance stop; bus frequencies and fares were not checked.

Changes: 2026-10-18 — Added to the site: fact-first record (dates, hours, prices, getting there, sources). · 2026-10-18 — Added a photograph from the Korea Tourism Organization (Korea Tourism Content Lab), KOGL Type 1. · 2026-10-19 — Rechecked before the 2026 edition: no changes found. · 2026-10-21 — Transport: removed last-train and last-bus clock times taken from the October 2026 timetable, which could not be verified for the festival dates (new Korail timetable from 1 November 2026), and added advice to check the Korail app (코레일+) or the station before travelling. · 2026-10-27 — Nearby rewritten as 'Before or after the festival' (shuttle and last-train fit); transport: no transport clock times in getThere or FAQs to check (last-train times stay removed); prices: unchanged (entry free). Saturday bridge lift corrected: suspended since 10 Oct 2026 for repairs. · 2026-10-29 — Rechecked before the 2026 edition: no changes found (dates, two venues, 10:00–20:00 and free entry confirmed by the culture ministry listing; the Saturday bridge lift is still suspended; no shuttle, parking or road-closure notice found).
