What it is like

The Jecheon International Music & Film Festival, JIMFF for short, was first held in August 2005 and is billed as the only festival in Korea, and in Asia, built around music films. For its first two decades it was a summer resort festival: films in the town's cinemas by day, and in the evening concerts on a special stage by Cheongpung Lake, which held up to 3,000 people in 2018, plus smaller shows at the Uirimji reservoir park. In 2024 the 20th edition moved from August to early September, and in 2025 the opening ceremony and the One Summer Night concerts left the lakeside for Jecheon Airfield, closer to town and easier to reach from Seoul, with about 350 tents for festival camping.

The 22nd edition ran 3–8 September 2026 under the slogan 'Fly Together', with director Jang Hang-jun in his second year as executive director. It showed 189 films from 45 countries, the most in its history, opening with Congo Boy by the Congolese director and musician Rafiki Fariala. Screenings were held at the Jecheon Culture Theater, the Jecheon Visual Media Center Bom and Yeopyeoncho Salon, a new international competition sat beside the music-film competition, and talk sessions brought Bong Joon-ho, Park Chan-wook and Son Suk-hee to Jecheon. The main stage moved again, from the airfield on the outskirts to the Summer Plaza of the Jecheon Arts Center in the city centre, which hosted the red carpet and the One Summer Night with K-pop Season 2 concerts on 4 and 5 September; the closing ceremony was held on 8 September in the Arts Center's Grand Theater. Street musicians chosen by open audition played in front of Jecheon Station and on downtown streets.

The practical points: the paid part of the festival is mainly the concerts, ₩40,000–60,000 on Melon Ticket in 2026, which Creatrip, a booking platform for foreign visitors, also resold. We could not find the 2026 price or booking rules for film screenings; in 2023 a general screening cost ₩7,000 on the official website. Jecheon is an easy train ride from Cheongnyangni, but the concerts start at 19:30 and run late, so plan a night in town if you go for the music.

Highlights

  • 189 films from 45 countries in 2026, the largest programme in the festival's history, opening with Congo Boy by Rafiki Fariala
  • One Summer Night with K-pop Season 2 on the Jecheon Arts Center's Summer Plaza, 4–5 September 2026 at 19:30, with Crush, FTISLAND, MONSTA X and RESCENE among the acts
  • JIMFF Special Choice concerts at the Jecheon Arts Center, 4–7 September 2026, including Yoon Jong-shin, Okdal Bit and Jung In, and a tribute to the late film composer Jung Sung-jo
  • Talk To You sessions in 2026 with Bong Joon-ho, Son Suk-hee and other guests, and Park Chan-wook presenting awards
  • Street musicians picked by open audition (300 teams entered the preliminary round in 2026) playing in front of Jecheon Station and on downtown streets
  • The Jecheon Film Music Award and its concert: Eric Serra gave his first Korean concert at the festival in 2025, and Chinese composer Zhao Jiping was honoured in 2026

Who it suits. Best for music and film fans who can stay a night in Jecheon, especially K-pop fans who book the One Summer Night concerts early; film lovers can do a day trip by KTX-Eum from Cheongnyangni. Less suited to anyone who needs English booking help for screenings, since we found no English guide to the film ticketing.

Getting there

From Seoul

KTX-Eum from Cheongnyangni Station to Jecheon Station on the Jungang Line: 1 h 05 m–1 h 14 m, ₩15,400 standard class, nine a day in October 2026 (ten at weekends). ITX-Maeum trains (1 h 16 m–1 h 39 m, ₩12,700) and Mugunghwa trains (1 h 36 m–1 h 55 m, ₩9,200) also run. In 2026 street performances were staged in front of Jecheon Station; for the Jecheon Arts Center, the cinemas and Uirimji, take a taxi or city bus (distances were not published in the sources reviewed).

Last leg from Jecheon Station

Korail Jungang Line (KTX-Eum, ITX-Maeum, Mugunghwa). Street stages were set up in front of the station in 2026; for the Jecheon Arts Center, the cinemas and Uirimji take a taxi or city bus (walking times not published)

Getting home

Last trains from Jecheon to Cheongnyangni (KTX-Eum, ITX-Maeum and Mugunghwa) for the 2027 festival dates were not checked; check the last train in the Korail app (코레일+ / Korail+) or at Jecheon Station before the festival day. The 2026 One Summer Night concerts started at 19:30 and were listed at about 240 minutes, so concert-goers should plan a night in Jecheon.

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English

Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.

Before you go

1330 · Travel hotline

The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.

112 / 119 · Emergencies

112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.

T-money card

Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.

Maps

Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.

Trains and buses

Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

About 61,000 visitors in 2025, up from 19,000 in 2024 and 22,000 in 2023 (Asia Kyungje). Ticket sales concentrate on the pop concerts, held on the Friday and Saturday nights in 2026.
