The Naora Show (나오라쇼, "Night of Light Show") is a free evening show at the Ganhyeon Tourist Area below Sogeumsan Grand Valley in Wonju, Gangwon: a media façade projected onto a river cliff about 250 m wide and 70 m high, with a music fountain that shoots up to 60 m. The 2026 season runs 25 April–31 October on Saturdays and public holidays only (none in July and August), 19:50–21:00, so the last 2026 shows are on Saturday 24 and Saturday 31 October; the 2027 season is expected from late April. No ticket is needed. Take the KTX-Eum from Cheongnyangni to Seowonju (42–48 minutes, ₩9,000) and a 5-minute taxi; evening trains back are few, so check the last train in the Korail+ app (코레일+) before you go and arrange the taxi back before the show ends.

What it is like

The Ganhyeon Tourist Area in Jijeong-myeon, on the western edge of Wonju, sits where the Seom River runs below the cliffs of Sogeumsan. By day it is the base for Sogeumsan Grand Valley, the ticketed course of cliff-side suspension bridges, plank walkways, a viewing tower and a cable car. On Saturday and holiday evenings from spring to autumn the same cliffs become the screen for the Naora Show. The name is a pun: its theme, in the operator's words, is to come out (나오라) to Ganhyeon and enjoy a night of light.

The 2026 show lasts about 70 minutes, from 19:50 to 21:00, in two parts. Part 1, NAORA LIVE, is a warm-up of busking, instrumental music and dance. Part 2, NAORA SHOW 2026, is the main event: a media façade on a natural rock face about 250 m wide and 70 m high, drawn with 12 projectors and 7 laser units and telling the local folk tale of the pheasant that repaid a kindness, together with the Aqua Orchestra, a music fountain in the river with more than 100 nozzles and jets up to 60 m high. Lasers, fog fountains, a light tunnel and "tree of life" sculptures made from reclaimed materials light the Samsancheon bridge and the trees around the plaza. For 2026 the operator, the Wonju City Facilities Management Corporation, reorganised the programme into these two parts, added new content and replaced every fountain track.

The season runs from 25 April to 31 October 2026, but only on Saturdays and public holidays, and the show stops in July and August to protect the outdoor equipment during the rainy season. Earlier seasons were similar: 20 April–27 October 2024 at weekends, starting at 20:30 for about 50 minutes, and in 2025 an autumn run from 6 September to 25 October at 20:40–21:10. The show has been free since September 2025.

The show needs no ticket. The Grand Valley's bridges, cable car and Sky Tower are a separate daytime ticket and close at 18:00 from May to October (last tickets 16:30), so a common plan is the bridges in the afternoon, dinner nearby, then the show. The honest caveats: it is an outdoor show, and equipment faults and rain have cancelled performances in the past; buses are sparse in the evening; and evening trains back to Seoul are few, so check the last train from Seowonju in the Korail+ app (코레일+) before you go and arrange a taxi before the show ends.

Highlights

  • A media façade on a natural river cliff about 250 m wide and 70 m high, drawn with 12 projectors and 7 laser units
  • The Aqua Orchestra music fountain in the river, with more than 100 nozzles and jets up to 60 m high; every fountain track was replaced for 2026
  • Free, with no ticket or booking: 19:50–21:00 on Saturdays and public holidays from 25 April to 31 October 2026
  • A two-part 2026 show: the NAORA LIVE warm-up (busking, instrumental music and dance), then the main show built on the local folk tale of the pheasant that repaid a kindness
  • Night lighting along the Samsancheon bridge: lasers, fog fountains, a light tunnel and "tree of life" sculptures made from reclaimed materials
  • Directly below Sogeumsan Grand Valley, so you can walk its 200 m suspension bridge and 404 m Ulleong bridge in the afternoon (ticketed, closes at 18:00)

Who it suits. Good for couples, families and anyone visiting Sogeumsan Grand Valley who can stay into a Saturday evening, or who is in Wonju for the Wonju Mandu Festival on 24 October 2026. Less suited to travellers on public transport who need to be back in Seoul early: evening buses are sparse and few trains leave Seowonju for Seoul after the show.

Getting there

From Seoul

KTX-Eum on the Jungang Line from Cheongnyangni to Seowonju Station, 42–48 minutes, ₩9,000 standard class (October 2026 fare, after the 1 September 2026 KTX–SRT merger; book on Korail's site or the Korail+ app). ITX-Maeum (1 h 01 m–1 h 07 m, ₩8,300) and Mugunghwa (1 h 01 m–1 h 21 m, ₩5,600) run on the same line. Evening trains are few, so pick one that reaches Seowonju well before the 19:50 start, and check the times in the Korail+ app (코레일+) before you go. From Seowonju it is about 5 minutes by taxi (about ₩5,000) to the Ganhyeon Tourist Area. City bus 52 stops at Ganhyeon Rail Park, about 5 minutes' walk away. Wonju Station is further out: about ₩20,000 by taxi.

Last leg from Seowonju Station

Korail Jungang Line (KTX-Eum, ITX-Maeum, Mugunghwa). Not walkable: about 5 minutes by taxi (about ₩5,000) to the Ganhyeon Tourist Area

Festival shuttle

No shuttle to the show was documented. City bus 52 stops at Ganhyeon Rail Park, about 5 minutes' walk from the site; its route, frequency and last evening departure were not found.

Getting home

The show ends at 21:00. Train times from Seowonju for Saturday 31 October 2026 were not checked against Korail, and evening trains to Cheongnyangni are few, so check the last train in the Korail+ app (코레일+, where KTX and former SRT trains are now booked) or at the station before you go, and book your return seat in advance. Seowonju is about 5 minutes away by taxi (about ₩5,000); there is no taxi rank documented at the site, so book or arrange a taxi before the show ends. Wonju Station is about ₩20,000 away by taxi, so Seowonju is the better choice. The last evening run of bus 52 was not found.

Parking

Free parking at the Ganhyeon Tourist Area and Sogeumsan Grand Valley, about 1,285 spaces; P4 is closest to the entrance, and the P3 Ganhyeon public car park takes the overflow on busy weekends. Driving from Seoul takes about 1 h 30 m–2 h via the Yeongdong Expressway (Wonju IC).

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English

Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.

Before you go

1330 · Travel hotline

The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.

112 / 119 · Emergencies

112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.

T-money card

Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.

Maps

Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.

Trains and buses

Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

Questions travelers ask

When is the Naora Show in 2026?

25 April–31 October 2026, on Saturdays and public holidays only, 19:50–21:00; there are no shows in July and August. As of 19 October the remaining dates are Saturday 24 and Saturday 31 October.

Is the Naora Show free? Do I need a Sogeumsan Grand Valley ticket?

The show is free and needs no ticket. The Grand Valley's bridges, Sky Tower and cable car are a separate daytime ticket (₩18,000 for adults on the cable car course, ₩10,000 on the trekking course) and close at 18:00, before the show.

How do I get to the Naora Show from Seoul?

Take the KTX-Eum from Cheongnyangni to Seowonju (42–48 minutes, ₩9,000), then a taxi of about 5 minutes (about ₩5,000). Evening trains are few, so pick one that reaches Seowonju well before the 19:50 start and check the times in the Korail+ app (코레일+). City bus 52 also stops at Ganhyeon Rail Park, about 5 minutes' walk away.

Can I get back to Seoul after the show?

Yes, but it is tight: evening trains from Seowonju to Cheongnyangni are few, and the times for Saturday 31 October 2026 were not checked against Korail. Check the last train in the Korail+ app (코레일+) or at the station before you go, book your seat, and arrange a taxi to Seowonju (about 5 minutes) before the show ends.

Is the show on in winter or in summer?

No. The 2026 season ends on 31 October, there are no shows from November to mid-April, and the show also stops in July and August for the rainy season. The 2027 season is expected to open in late April.

Can I combine it with the Wonju Mandu Festival?

Yes. The Wonju Mandu Festival runs 23–25 October 2026 in Wonju's old downtown, so you can eat dumplings during the day on Saturday 24 October and take a taxi out to Ganhyeon for the 19:50 show.

What happens if it rains?

No rain policy was published. The show is outdoors and has been cancelled for weather and equipment faults before, so check the operator's Instagram (@wfmc_ganhyeon) or call 033-749-4860 on the day.

What we could not confirm

  • First year the show was held: it ran in 2023 at the latest (Segye Ilbo, December 2023), but no launch date was found, so firstHeld is null.
  • KTO's text says Saturdays and the eve of public holidays, but the dates it lists and the operator's April 2026 announcement point to Saturdays and the holidays themselves; check holiday dates in 2027.
  • City bus 52's route, frequency and last evening departure from Ganhyeon Rail Park, and whether taxis wait at the site after 21:00.
  • Last train back on the festival date under the timetable in force that day: Seowonju–Cheongnyangni times for Saturday 31 October 2026 (and the last train arriving before the 19:50 start) were not checked against Korail; the third-party timetable page could not be opened on 27 October 2026, so all train clock times were removed.
  • Japanese and Chinese names were not found on an official page.
  • The operator's site (cms.wfmc.kr) could not be opened, so Grand Valley prices and hours come from KTO data and travel media; child age bands and Wonju-resident prices were not checked.
