What it is like
The Hangang Festival (한강페스티벌) is the Seoul Metropolitan Government's festival for its Han River parks, held in separate spring, summer, autumn and winter runs; this page covers the winter run (한강페스티벌_겨울). Run by the city's Future Hangang Headquarters, it fills the second half of December with year-end events spread over several riverside parks: a Christmas market, domes for photos and rest, kite flying, a Christmas exhibition among retired navy ships, river cruises, and the Hangang sledding parks, which open around Christmas and stay open into February.
The 2025 run (19–31 December, eight programmes in five parks) shows the format. The Romantic Hangang Christmas Market filled the Jabeolle ('inchworm') building and the space under Cheongdam Bridge in Ttukseom Hangang Park from 19 to 25 December, 14:00–21:00, with more than 40 shops, a stall of farm products from Hongcheon County, 16 food trucks with indoor seating, photo zones and craft workshops priced by their materials. On the riverbank in front of Sebitseom at Banpo Hangang Park, Bom ON Hangang ('spring on the Han River') set up a 15 m dome of spring flowers and eight smaller domes for photos and rest (19–28 December, free), and on 27–28 December the Hangang Wind Festival flew a 30 m whale kite and a 6 m Santa kite. The sledding parks in the outdoor pools of Ttukseom, Jamwon and Yeouido charge one small fee for all ages (under ₩10,000); in 2025 warm weather delayed their opening to 31 December.
In 2024 (20–31 December) the market and six transparent snow domes were at Yeouido Hangang Park instead, and a fireworks cruise sailed from Ara Gimpo to Yeouido; the city counted about 630,000 visitors. After the Jeju Air crash on 29 December 2024, the market's performances and the New Year's Eve cruise were cancelled for the national mourning period. The earliest winter run found is 2023 (22–31 December), with the market at Ttukseom.
For 2026 the city's April schedule gives 19–27 December under the theme '쓰담쓰담 한강' (roughly 'a gentle pat for the Han River'), and its February park plan puts the winter rest area and kite festival at Yeouido and the Christmas market at Ttukseom. Seoul Winter Festa, which has its own page on this site, is a different city festival in central Seoul (Gwanghwamun, Cheonggyecheon, Seoul Plaza, DDP and Bosingak) over the same weeks; city sources present the two side by side but do not make the river events part of the festa.
The honest caveats: the line-up changes every year and has been announced only days before opening (17 December 2024, 15 December 2025); events are spread across parks and dates; and the riverside is cold and exposed, so programmes are shortened or paused in severe cold or fine dust.
Highlights
- Romantic Hangang Christmas Market: 19–25 December 2025, 14:00–21:00, at Ttukseom Hangang Park, with more than 40 shops, 16 food trucks, photo zones and workshops; free entry
- Bom ON Hangang (2025): a 15 m spring-flower dome, two photo domes and six rest domes in front of Sebitseom at Banpo, free, no booking
- Hangang Wind Festival: a 30 m whale kite, a 6 m Santa kite, kite making and stunt kites (27–28 December 2025, 13:00–18:00)
- Hangang sledding parks in the Ttukseom, Jamwon and Yeouido outdoor pools: a small fee for all ages (under ₩10,000), half price with Korean discount cards, free under 36 months; open into mid-February
- Christmas exhibition at Seoul Battleship Park in Mangwon Hangang Park, beside three retired navy vessels (15 November 2025–1 February 2026, 10:00–18:00, closed Mondays)
- Year-end fireworks cruises: in 2024 a cruise sailed from Ara Gimpo to Yeouido; cruises cost about ₩25,000–40,000 a person
- Planned 2026 run: 19–27 December, theme '쓰담쓰담 한강', at Yeouido and Ttukseom Hangang Parks
Who it suits. Best for families with children, couples and anyone in Seoul over Christmas who wants a free evening market or a sledding afternoon by the river; less suited to visitors expecting one big site or a fixed programme, because the events are spread across parks and dates and the line-up comes out only days before.
Getting there
From Seoul
For the Christmas market at Ttukseom Hangang Park, take Line 7 to Jayang Station, whose Exits 2 and 3 open straight onto the park; in 2025 the Ttukseom sledding park was in the pool north of Cheongdam Bridge, from Exit 2. For Yeouido Hangang Park (the 2026 winter rest area and kite festival, per the city's plan), take Line 5 to Yeouinaru Station, Exits 2 and 3. Banpo Hangang Park, used in 2025, is about 15 minutes on foot from Sinbanpo Station (Line 9) Exit 1 or Dongjak Station (Lines 4 and 9) Exits 1 and 2. For Seoul Battleship Park, take village bus 16 from Hapjeong Station (Lines 2 and 6) or village bus 9 from Mangwon Station (Line 6) to the Mangwon Hangang Park stop.
From Incheon Airport
AREX to Hongik Univ. Station, Line 2 to Konkuk Univ. Station, then Line 7 one stop to Jayang Station for Ttukseom. For Yeouido, AREX to Gongdeok Station, then Line 5 to Yeouinaru Station.
Last leg from Jayang Station
Seoul Subway Line 7, Exit 2 or 3. The exits open onto Ttukseom Hangang Park, about 1 minute
Festival shuttle
No festival shuttle. Hangang Bus river boats stop at Ttukseom Pier; in September 2026 the fare was ₩3,000 and boats ran about once an hour (hgbus.co.kr). Whether they run on the festival days in winter was not checked.
Getting home
Recent programmes ended by 21:00 (market 21:00 in 2024 and 2025, domes 21:00 in 2024), well before the last subway trains.
Parking
Not advised. Parking outside marked spaces in the Hangang parks brings a ₩50,000 fine, and parking at Seoul Battleship Park is limited; the city asks visitors to use public transport.
How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English
Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.
Before you go
1330 · Travel hotline
The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.
112 / 119 · Emergencies
112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.
T-money card
Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.
Maps
Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.
Trains and buses
Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

Questions travelers ask
When is the Hangang Festival winter 2026?
The city's April 2026 schedule gives 19–27 December 2026, theme '쓰담쓰담 한강'. The programme had not been published as of 18 October 2026; in 2024 and 2025 it came out only a few days before opening (17 and 15 December). Earlier runs were 20–31 December 2024 and 19–31 December 2025.
Is the Hangang winter festival free?
Mostly. The parks, the Christmas market, the domes and the kite festival are free. Market workshops charge for materials, the sledding parks charge under ₩10,000 for any age (free under 36 months), and cruises are paid.
Where is the Han River Christmas market?
It moves. It was at Ttukseom Hangang Park in 2023 and 2025 (19–25 December 2025, 14:00–21:00, in the Jabeolle building and under Cheongdam Bridge) and at Yeouido Hangang Park in 2024. The city's 2026 plan puts it at Ttukseom; dates are not out. For Ttukseom, use Jayang Station (Line 7), Exits 2 and 3.
Are the Hangang sledding parks part of the festival?
The city listed them as one of the 2025 winter programmes, but their season is longer. They are in the outdoor pools of Ttukseom, Jamwon and Yeouido Hangang Parks: in the 2025–26 season they ran 31 December–18 February, 10:00–17:00 with a 13:00–14:00 break, and entry is under ₩10,000. The large slope is for ages 6 and up and the small slope for 36 months to under 6.
Is this the same as Seoul Winter Festa?
No. Seoul Winter Festa is a separate city festival in central Seoul (Gwanghwamun, Cheonggyecheon, Seoul Plaza, DDP and Bosingak) running from mid-December into January. The Han River events overlap in dates, and in 2023 the city hoped visitors would move between the two, but they are run and listed separately.
How do I get to Ttukseom Hangang Park?
Take Line 7 to Jayang Station; Exits 2 and 3 open onto the park in about a minute. For Yeouido Hangang Park, take Line 5 to Yeouinaru Station, Exits 2 and 3.
What is the weather like at Hangang Festival (Winter) in December?
December in Seoul: average high 4 °C (40 °F), low −3 °C (26 °F), 23 mm of rain (Seoul station, KMA 1991–2020 normals). Near or below freezing after dark: a warm coat and layers.
