What it is like

The Namsan Night Festival (남산 나이트 페스티벌) is a new autumn evening programme from the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Garden City Bureau on Namsan, the wooded hill in the middle of the city crowned by N Seoul Tower. No earlier edition has been found; the same bureau ran a one-day Namsan Summer Festival on the same squares on 27 June 2026. The night festival runs on seven Friday and Saturday evenings between 23 October and 14 November 2026, and everything is booked in advance.

The core is the Namsan Campnic, a mix of camping and picnic on the lawn of Baekbeom Square, the open space below the statue of the independence leader Kim Gu. On 23, 24, 30 and 31 October and 6 and 7 November, from 17:00 to 22:00, about 100 pitches a night are let to teams of up to four. The evening programme has moonlight live music, Starlight Cinema film screenings (August Rush is one of the films) and Namsan Noeul FM, a live radio-style show that reads out visitors' stories and plays their requests. There is no food market in the usual sense: you order from local restaurants to a delivery zone in the Hohyeondang courtyard, or buy from food trucks, and heated warming zones are set up for the cold evenings.

On the first and third weekends (23–24 October and 6–7 November) the Autumn Foliage Walk takes 700 people a night from Namsan Yejang Park around the hill in two groups, at 16:00 and 17:00. Course 1 (3.8 km, about 1 hour 30 minutes) follows the north circular road and the Haneul Forest Trail to the Namsan Library entrance, towards Haebangchon, Huam-dong and Itaewon; Course 2 (4.2 km, about 1 hour 40 minutes) climbs past N Seoul Tower and comes down the north forest trail to Namsangol Hanok Village, near Chungmuro and Euljiro. Walkers get glow props, busking along the way, a finisher's souvenir and shop coupons for the neighbourhoods where the walks end. The festival closes on Saturday 14 November with the Palgak Club, a silent DJ party on wireless headphones in front of the Palgakjeong pavilion beside N Seoul Tower, in two sessions of 300 people.

The honest caveats: all three parts need a Naver booking and a deposit (refunded when you turn up), slots go week by week and can sell out, and Naver usually needs an account. A separate free night walk on Namsan listed by the Korea Tourism Organization, 반짝반짝 남산밤길, runs from 21 October to 21 November but is not part of the city's festival announcement. Baekbeom Square is reached by an uphill walk, and the hilltop is cold after dark in November.

Highlights

  • Namsan Campnic: about 100 picnic pitches a night on the lawn of Baekbeom Square, 17:00–22:00 on 23, 24, 30 and 31 October and 6 and 7 November 2026, for teams of up to four
  • Campnic evenings with moonlight live music, Starlight Cinema film screenings (August Rush among them) and Namsan Noeul FM, a live request show of visitors' stories
  • Autumn Foliage Walk for 700 people a night: Course 1 (3.8 km, about 1 h 30 min) on 23–24 October and Course 2 (4.2 km past N Seoul Tower, about 1 h 40 min) on 6–7 November, with glow props, busking and a finisher's souvenir
  • Palgak Club: a silent DJ party on wireless headphones in front of the Palgakjeong pavilion by N Seoul Tower, Saturday 14 November, 17:30–19:00 and 19:30–21:00, 300 people per session
  • Free, with refundable deposits: ₩10,000 per Campnic team, ₩5,000 per walker and ₩5,000 for the Palgak Club
  • Food by delivery: order from local restaurants to a delivery zone in the Hohyeondang courtyard, or buy from the food trucks; heated warming zones on site

Who it suits. Best for couples, friends and families staying in central Seoul who want a cheap, booked evening on Namsan with city views, a guided walk through the autumn foliage or a silent disco; less suited to travellers who cannot book on Naver in advance or want to just turn up, and the walks are long and partly uphill after dark.

Getting there

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English

Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.

Before you go

1330 · Travel hotline

The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.

112 / 119 · Emergencies

112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.

T-money card

Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.

Maps

Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.

Trains and buses

Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

What we could not confirm

  • Whether 2026 is the first edition: no earlier Namsan Night Festival was found, but no source says so outright (the city also ran a Namsan Summer Festival on 27 June 2026)
  • Whether the 반짝반짝 남산밤길 night trek (KTO contentId 4127746, 21 Oct–21 Nov 2026) is linked to the festival: it has a different start point, hours and contact and no deposit, so it is treated as separate; its exact evenings and booking method were not found
  • Whether Campnic pitches come with a tent or mat, or visitors bring their own
  • Whether the ₩5,000 Palgak Club deposit is per person
  • The weekly booking-release schedule (a blog citing Visit Seoul says Mondays at 10:00) and whether visitors without a Naver account can book
  • Film line-up and live-music times for the Campnic were not published
  • Rain policy, restrooms, accessibility and pet rules were not published
  • Official Japanese and Chinese names not found
  • Bus routes and car parks come from a 2019 city guide and may have changed
  • N Seoul Tower observatory ticket price and last entry: the KTO data page lists two price sets (adult ₩29,000 and ₩21,000) and no last entry; the tower's own site was not opened.
