What it is like

The Hangang Festival (한강페스티벌) is the Seoul Metropolitan Government's umbrella festival for its Han River parks, held as separate seasonal runs, each with its own theme, parks and programmes. This page covers the autumn run (한강페스티벌_가을), which lasts 9–10 days in mid to late October: 11–20 October 2024 (the river and eight parks), 18–26 October 2025 (the river and six parks) and 17–25 October 2026 (the river and seven parks). Each of the last three autumn runs has had exercise classes or a health challenge and an evening concert or gala by the river.

The 2026 autumn run, built around looking after body and mind, has 11 programmes on the river and in seven parks. The busiest weekend is 17–18 October on the multipurpose field at Jamwon Hangang Park: one-hour rhythm training, Pound Fit and sliding-board classes from the morning, a no-fire cooking session at 16:00 with a cooking YouTuber using convenience-store ingredients, and a free musical gala at 17:30 with Dankook University students and guest actors. From 23 to 25 October, 20 young chef teams compete with Korean street food from food trucks at the Ttukseom Hangang Park pool, and on 24–25 October Gangseo Hangang Park has a free forest adventure playground for children. All week, Banpo Hangang Park has yacht, kayak and small-boat rides around Sebitseom, and silent-yoga sessions with headsets run at Jamwon on 17 and 24 October (the second session was moved from Banpo on 25 October).

Walking in and watching the stage are free. The classes cost ₩5,000 (yoga ₩9,000) and are booked online, with any places left sold on site; the boat rides are paid. In the same weeks the city runs other events in the parks, such as the car-free Jamsu Bridge festival on Sunday afternoons and the Sagaksagak art festival at Jamsil Hangang Park on 17 October.

The honest caveats: this is a programme spread across parks and days, not one festival ground, so choose the day and the park first; the Jamwon field is a 17–20-minute walk from the nearest subway exit; and the city says any programme may change depending on conditions on site.

Highlights

  • Free musical gala 'ON Stage' at Jamwon Hangang Park, 17–18 October 2026, 17:30–19:00, with actors Seo Beom-seok (17 Oct) and Lisa (18 Oct)
  • One-hour exercise classes on 17–18 October: rhythm training at 10:00, Pound Fit at 12:00 and sliding board at 14:00 (₩5,000 each)
  • Hangang Hanggki, a no-fire cooking session with a cooking YouTuber who has 1.11 million subscribers, 16:00–17:30 on 17–18 October (₩5,000)
  • The Road Chef Hangang: 20 young chef teams cooking Korean street food from food trucks at Ttukseom Hangang Park, 23–25 October, free entry
  • Yacht (₩20,000–31,000), kayak (₩12,500–30,000) and Tubester small-boat rides at Banpo Hangang Park's Sebitseom all week
  • Silent yoga with headsets at Jamwon on Sat 17 October (15:30–18:00) and Sat 24 October (₩9,000)
  • Hangang Forest Adventure at Gangseo Hangang Park, 24–25 October 13:00–17:00: free zip lines, tree climbing, swings and rope play for children, with hammocks for parents

Who it suits. Best for families, active travellers and anyone staying in Seoul who wants a cheap afternoon by the Han River with a class, a boat ride or a free show; less suited to visitors expecting one big festival site, because the programmes are scattered across parks and days.

Getting there

From Seoul

For the main weekend at Jamwon Hangang Park, take Line 3 to Sinsa Station, Exit 5, and walk about 17–20 minutes to the river; the multipurpose field is by the Sinsa underpass (Sinsa-nadeulmok). Jamwon Station (Line 3), Exit 4, is about 20 minutes on foot. Hangang Bus river boats stop at Apgujeong Pier, which the city suggests for Jamwon. For The Road Chef, take Line 7 to Jayang Station, whose Exits 2 and 3 open straight onto Ttukseom Hangang Park. Banpo Hangang Park (Sebitseom boats) is about 15 minutes on foot from Sinbanpo Station (Line 9) Exit 1 or Dongjak Station (Lines 4 and 9) Exits 1 and 2.

From Incheon Airport

AREX to Seoul Station, Line 4 to Chungmuro, then Line 3 to Sinsa Station, Exit 5, for Jamwon Hangang Park.

Last leg from Sinsa Station

Seoul Subway Line 3, Exit 5. About 17–20 minutes to Jamwon Hangang Park; the festival field is by the Sinsa underpass (Sinsa-nadeulmok)

Festival shuttle

No festival shuttle for Jamwon, Ttukseom or Banpo. For the Hangang Forest Adventure at Gangseo Hangang Park, a free shuttle bus runs on Sat 24 and Sun 25 Oct, 12:00–18:00 every 20 minutes, between Banghwa Station (Line 5; stop in front of the Paris Baguette near Exit 2) and the park; seated passengers only, so if a bus is full wait for the next one (festival notice of 21 Oct). Hangang Bus river boats stop at Apgujeong Pier (for Jamwon) and Ttukseom Pier (for The Road Chef); in September 2026 the fare was ₩3,000 and boats ran about once an hour. Timetables are at hgbus.co.kr.

Getting home

The Jamwon programmes end at 19:00 and The Road Chef at 21:00 (20:00 on 25 Oct), well before the last subway trains. Tubester boats at Banpo run until 23:00, so check the last train if you stay that late.

Parking

Jamwon Hangang Park has six car parks with 722 spaces (₩1,000 for the first 30 minutes, then ₩200 per 10 minutes, per KTO data). Parking outside marked spaces in the Hangang parks brings a ₩50,000 fine, and the city asks visitors to come by public transport.

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English

Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.

Before you go

1330 · Travel hotline

The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.

112 / 119 · Emergencies

112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.

T-money card

Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.

Maps

Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.

Trains and buses

Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.
