The Goheung Nokdong Port Drone Show (고흥 녹동항 드론쇼) is a free drone light show over Nokdong Port in Goheung, Jeollanam-do, with Sorok Bridge behind it, held every Saturday at 21:00 from 4 April to 31 October 2026 (900 drones, busking from 20:00) and on the last Friday of each month in Goheung-eup. As of 19 October 2026 the season's last shows are Saturday 24 October, Friday 30 October (Goheung-eup) and Saturday 31 October; the 2027 season is expected from April. Rain or strong wind cancels a show. From Seoul it is about 4 h 40 m by express bus via Goheung, and no bus leaves Nokdong after the show, so plan to stay the night.

What it is like

Goheung County started the Nokdong Port drone show in May 2023 as the first regular weekly drone show in Jeollanam-do, part of its effort to sell the county as a drone and space-aviation town. On Saturday nights several hundred drones rise over the harbour at Nokdong, the port town on Goheung's south coast, and form pictures and words to music for about 10–15 minutes, with the lit Sorok Bridge and Sorokdo island behind them. Busking starts at 20:00 and the drones fly at 21:00. The show has grown each year: 500 drones on regular nights in 2023, about 700 in 2024 and 2025, and 900 in 2026, with 1,000 to 2,026 drones and fireworks over the sea on opening, holiday and closing nights. The county counted about 180,000 viewers over 23 shows in 2023 and about 230,000 in 2025.

The 2026 season, the fourth, runs from 4 April to 31 October. The 4 April opening was called off for strong wind and held a week later, on 11 April, with 2,026 drones and sea fireworks. Because of port construction from May to December 2026, the Saturday shows moved from the Sea Garden stage to the car park beside the Nokdong Port dome theatre. A second show takes place at 21:00 on the last Friday of each month on the Goheung County Citizens' Plaza in front of the county office in Goheung-eup. Holiday specials so far have included a 1,500-drone Seollal show on 15 February 2026 and a 2,000-drone Chuseok show with sea fireworks on 25 September 2026. After the season the county plans special shows during the Goheung Yuzu Festival (12–15 November 2026) and for the New Year sunrise and Seollal, without announced dates.

Honest caveats: the show is short and depends on the weather, and wind or rain can cancel it on the day, so check the official site or Instagram before you travel. Nokdong is far from Seoul and Goheung has no railway; in the bus listings checked, the last buses out of Nokdong leave before the show starts, so you need a room in Nokdong or Goheung-eup. Parking around the port runs short on show nights, and no English information about the show was found.

Highlights

  • Saturday shows at 21:00 with 900 drones in 2026 (700 in 2025), flown over the harbour with the lit Sorok Bridge and Sorokdo island behind
  • Free busking from 20:00 before each show
  • Big nights with sea fireworks and far more drones: the 2,026-drone opening on 11 April 2026, Chuseok on 25 September 2026 (2,000) and the 2024 closing (1,500)
  • A monthly second show at 21:00 on the last Friday on the Goheung County Citizens' Plaza in Goheung-eup (24 April–30 October 2026)
  • Demonstrations of commercial drones used to scare pest birds off farmland (7 drones in 2026), plus laser shows
  • Grilled eel and eel soup stalls and food trucks near the port on show nights (2025)

Who it suits. Best for travellers already on the south coast (Suncheon, Yeosu, Goheung) or staying a night in Goheung, for families, and for anyone who likes night photography over water; not suited to a day trip from Seoul (no bus leaves Nokdong after the show) or to anyone who cannot shift plans if wind cancels the night.

Getting there

From Seoul

Goheung has no railway. Express bus from Seoul Central City Terminal (Honam line) to Goheung Public Bus Terminal: 4 a day, 4 h 24 m, ₩42,800 (deluxe); then a local bus or taxi to Nokdong (buses from Nokdong to Goheung take 16 minutes, 42 a day). Direct buses also link Nokdong and Central City (Nokdong to Seoul: 4 a day, 4 h 43 m, ₩44,700); Seoul-to-Nokdong times were not checked. By rail: KTX from Yongsan to Suncheon (19 a day in mid-October 2026, most 2 h 33 m–2 h 50 m, ₩42,300 standard), then a bus from Suncheon to Goheung (1 h 4–7 m) and on to Nokdong, or a Suncheon–Nokdong bus (about 1 h 20 m). Check departure times in the Korail+ app (코레일+) and at the bus terminal before you go.

From Busan

Buses between Busan Seobu (Sasang) Terminal and Goheung run about three times a day each way (about 3 h to 3 h 42 m; ₩34,300 deluxe from Goheung), then a local bus to Nokdong. Nokdong also has two buses a day to Sasang (3 h 59 m, ₩38,100). Or travel via Suncheon, where buses to Nokdong take about 1 h 20 m. Check departure times at the terminal before you go.

Last leg from Suncheon Station (KTX), then bus to Nokdong

Korail Jeolla Line (KTX from Yongsan; a few from Suseo). Not walkable: bus from the Suncheon Station stop to Goheung (about 1 h 7 m) and on to Nokdong (16 minutes), or a bus from Suncheon terminal to Nokdong (about 1 h 20 m). Beolgyo Station on the Gyeongjeon Line is 51 minutes from Nokdong by bus.

Festival shuttle

No shuttle bus for the drone show was found in the 2026 announcements.

Getting home

You cannot get back to Seoul by public transport after the show. The drones fly at 21:00, and in the bus listings checked in October 2026 the last buses out of Nokdong (to Goheung, Beolgyo and Suncheon) leave before the show starts and the last direct bus to Seoul leaves in the afternoon. The Friday show in Goheung-eup (30 October) does not work for a same-night return either: the last bus from Goheung to the Suncheon Station stop leaves while the show is on. Stay the night in Nokdong or Goheung-eup and leave the next morning by direct bus to Seoul or by bus to Suncheon for the KTX. These listings come from a third-party copy of the national timetable feed, not the operators: confirm the last and first buses at Nokdong or Goheung terminal.

Parking

Parking around Nokdong Port runs short on show nights, the county says. In August 2025 it won national funding for a ₩5 billion project to build a 166-space parking tower and rest area in the port area; no completion date was found.

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English

Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.

Before you go

1330 · Travel hotline

The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.

112 / 119 · Emergencies

112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.

T-money card

Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.

Maps

Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.

Trains and buses

Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

Places you can fit in before or after the festival without missing the shuttle or the last train or bus back.

  • Sorok Island (소록도)Before

A small island across Sorok Bridge from Nokdong, long the home of the National Sorokdo Hospital and its Hansen's disease settlement; the hospital's free Hansen's Disease Museum tells the residents' history through videos and objects, near Sorokdo Central Park. The museum opens 09:30–16:30, Tuesday to Sunday (walk-in only), so go in the afternoon before a Saturday show and be back in Nokdong for dinner and the 20:00 busking. Tip: wear comfortable shoes for the walk from the car park.

Eat here between the afternoon and the 20:00 busking: the Saturday shows are in the same port, by the dome theatre car park, and in 2025 grilled-eel and eel-soup stalls and food trucks set up on show nights. Tip: parking runs short on show nights, so arrive early.

Getting there: In Nokdong itself, on foot from the show area; free

  • Japanese and Chinese names were not found on a KTO foreign-language page.
  • KTO lists the address under 전남광주통합특별시 (Jeonnam-Gwangju integrated special city, launched 1 July 2026); the record keeps Jeollanam-do, as other records do.
