What it is like
Jarasum ('Turtle Island') is a group of low islands in the Bukhan River at Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do, reachable on foot from Gapyeong Station on the Gyeongchun line. Since 2004 the festival has filled its lawns for one October weekend with international and Korean jazz: the 2026 edition featured France as focus country with Camille Bertault and Robinson Khoury alongside Alfredo Rodríguez, Takuya Kuroda and Bruno Pernadas; 2025 brought Bill Frisell, Stanley Clarke and Ibrahim Maalouf among 41 acts from 17 countries. Ticket holders get the island stages; free performances also run in Gapyeong town and the Seodo area, and the organizers describe a jazz stage, a party stage and a 'jazz island'. The crowd is mixed: couples on picnic mats, families with children (primary-school age and younger enter free with an adult), and serious listeners up front. Wine, food trucks and craft stalls line the lawns. Practicalities matter here: there is no fixed seating, so you sit on the grass; October evenings by the river are cold; the island is reached by ITX-Cheongchun or Gyeongchun-line trains to Gapyeong Station, with a free town shuttle on Friday and Saturday and a paid 'Kkotgama' coach from four Seoul hubs. Camping on the island is booked separately through the Thank You Camping site and no combined ticket is sold. Returning to Seoul after the last set means a late train or the coach, so many people stay in Gapyeong pensions.
Highlights
- Three days of jazz on the island lawns, 9–11 October 2026, with France as focus country (Camille Bertault, Robinson Khoury, Francesca Han's WAKAN) plus Alfredo Rodríguez, Takuya Kuroda and Bruno Pernadas
- Free 'Jazz Festival in Gapyeong' performances in Gapyeong town and Seodo for anyone without a ticket
- Picnic-style audience on the grass by the Bukhan River; bring a mat, no fixed seating
- Kkotgama coach shuttles from Sadang, Seoul Station, Jamsil Sports Complex and Hapjeong, returning 20:30 (21:40 on the final day)
- Island campsite for festival-goers, booked separately
- Early-bird 3-day pass holders get early entry
Who it suits. Best for jazz and world-music listeners, couples and families who like a relaxed picnic-style festival within reach of Seoul; less suited to people who want seats, late-night trains back to the city, or a lineup of pop headliners, and to anyone put off by cold, damp October evenings on a river island.
Getting there
From Seoul
ITX-Cheongchun from Yongsan (about 1 h, ₩6,900; also stops at Cheongnyangni, about 40 minutes from there) to Gapyeong Station, or the slower Gyeongchun line (Seoul Metro) from Sangbong to Gapyeong (about 55 minutes); Gapyeong Station's subname is 'Jarasum·Namiseom'. From the station the island entrance is a short walk south-east (the organizers run a free town shuttle 11:00–21:00 on Friday and Saturday). Alternatively the paid Kkotgama festival coach from Sadang, Seoul Station, Jamsil Sports Complex or Hapjeong, booked in the Kkotgama app.
From Busan
KTX from Busan to Seoul Station, then Line 1 to Yongsan or Cheongnyangni and ITX-Cheongchun to Gapyeong; allow about 4 hours.
From Incheon Airport
AREX to Seoul Station, Line 1 to Yongsan, then ITX-Cheongchun to Gapyeong; or an airport bus to Gapyeong if running. Allow about 3 hours.
Last leg from Gapyeong Station
Gyeongchun Line (Seoul Metro) and ITX-Cheongchun (Yongsan–Chuncheon). Short walk to the island entrance (the station is about 1 km north-west of the island by map); exact exit and minutes not published by the organizer
Festival shuttle

Under-filled routes may be cancelled with a refund.
Getting home
Evening sets end around 20:00–21:30 (the timetable was published only as images). How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English
Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.
Before you go
1330 · Travel hotline
The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.
112 / 119 · Emergencies
112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.
T-money card
Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.
Maps
Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.
Trains and buses
Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.
