What it is like

The Hantan River has cut a deep gorge through the basalt of northern Gyeonggi-do, and the area is a UNESCO Global Geopark. On a lava plateau above the gorge in Gwanin-myeon, in the north of Pocheon, the city has laid out the Hantangang Ecological Landscape Complex: about 260,000 m² of seasonal flower fields, themed gardens and lawns. Pocheon opened the first Garden Festa there on 7 September 2024, on the same day as a 410 m Y-shaped suspension bridge that forks over the gorge, and has run it twice a year since: a spring season in May and June and an autumn season from September to the start of November. By early October 2026 the seasons together had passed one million visitors.

The 2026 autumn season runs for 51 days, from 12 September to 1 November, 09:00–18:00 with last entry at 17:00. The flower fields are planted with chrysanthemum, verbena, yellow cosmos, cosmos and gaura, alongside theme gardens by local artists and a tropical garden of papaya and banana plants. Much of the programme is for families: a Pororo and Friends photo zone on an autumn-camping theme, an animal corner run with Pyeonggang Land where children can feed goats, sheep, rabbits and guinea pigs, family electric bicycles for getting round the grounds, kite flying, giant chess and chalk art, and weekend busking, from acoustic sets to magic shows. The Hantangang Market sells Pocheon farm produce and food.

Entry is ₩7,000 for adults and ₩5,000 for teens and children, and ₩4,000 or ₩3,000 of that comes back as Pocheon Love gift certificates, which can be spent at the market and food stalls or in Pocheon's shops and restaurants. Pocheon residents and preschool children enter free, and seniors and residents of three Seoul districts pay half. The Y-shaped bridge, free at other times, sits inside the paid area while the festival runs.

The honest caveats: no railway station serves the site and there is no festival shuttle, so without a car the trip means a bus to Pocheon and then a local bus; weekends are crowded and the e-bike queues can be long; information is in Korean only; and a listing built on KTO data says the festival is closed on Tuesdays, which is worth checking before you set off.

Highlights

  • Korea's longest Y-shaped suspension bridge: 410 m long, towerless and forking over the basalt gorge, opened with the first Garden Festa on 7 September 2024 and part of the festival site
  • Autumn flower fields of chrysanthemum, verbena, yellow cosmos, cosmos and gaura, with local artists' theme gardens and a tropical garden of papaya and banana plants (2026)
  • Pororo and Friends photo zone on an autumn-camping theme, and an animal corner with Pyeonggang Land: teddy-bear cows, Boer goats, sheep, guinea pigs and rabbits to feed
  • Family electric bicycles for touring the 260,000 m² grounds (ticket sales close at 16:30)
  • Entry ₩7,000 (adults) or ₩5,000 (teens and children), with ₩4,000 or ₩3,000 back in Pocheon Love gift certificates for the Hantangang Market of local produce and food
  • Weekend busking around the grounds, plus kite flying, giant chess, chalk art and craft workshops

Who it suits. Best for families with young children, couples and anyone with a car who wants flower fields, a dramatic suspension bridge over a basalt gorge and easy activities in one day out; less suited to travellers relying on public transport, since there is no shuttle and local buses are infrequent, or to anyone looking for evening events or English-language information.

Getting there

From Seoul

By car: about 1 hour 30 minutes from Seoul via the Sejong–Pocheon Expressway to Pocheon IC, then Route 43 north towards Yeongbuk-myeon; search 한탄강 생태경관단지 in a navigation app. By public transport there is no direct bus and no festival shuttle: take a Pocheon-bound intercity bus from Dong Seoul Terminal, or go to Uijeongbu Station (Line 1) for a bus to Pocheon, then from the stops around Pocheon City Hall take local bus 100, 60-1 or 60-2 to the Yaksu-dong (약수동) stop, about 5 minutes' walk from the site. Times and fares for these buses were not confirmed; one walker needed about 2 hours with two changes from the Yeongbuk-myeon Office stop back to Uijeongbu Station. A taxi from the last bus stop is the fallback.

From Incheon Airport

No direct airport bus to the site was found. Travel into Seoul first and follow the Seoul route via Dong Seoul Terminal or Uijeongbu Station and a local bus from Pocheon City Hall.

Festival shuttle

No festival shuttle bus was announced for 2026 on the pages checked. Local buses 100, 60-1 and 60-2 run from the stops around Pocheon City Hall to the Yaksu-dong stop, about 5 minutes on foot from the site.

Getting home

No railway serves the site. The grounds close at 18:00 (last entry 17:00). Rural Pocheon buses are infrequent, so check the last local bus back towards Pocheon City Hall and the last bus to Seoul in Naver Map or Kakao Map before you set off.

Parking

About 2,200 parking spaces at the complex (spring 2026 report); fees were not stated. At the Y-shaped bridge there are three free car parks; lot 1, nearest the bridge, fills quickly on spring and autumn weekends, so arrive before 10:00 or come on a weekday. The public car park at Bidulginang Falls is free.

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English

Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.

Before you go

1330 · Travel hotline

The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.

112 / 119 · Emergencies

112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.

T-money card

Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.

Maps

Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.

Trains and buses

Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

YearDatesStatusNotes
2027 Early or mid September to about the first days of November 2027, if the pattern of 2025 and 2026 holds; nothing announced as of 19 October 2026. A spring season in May–June 2027 would come first if Pocheon keeps the twice-yearly format. expected
2026 12 Sep – 1 Nov 2026 confirmed Hantangang Ecological Landscape Complex, about 260,000 m²; the Y-shaped suspension bridge is within about 631 m of the festival address.
2025 6 Sep – 2 Nov 2025 ended 58 days. The city's July 2025 plan gave 4 Sep–2 Nov with the themes Flower Beat and Garden Night. Across both 2025 seasons the Garden Festa drew about 450,000 visitors and ₩1.7 billion in non-tax revenue; the spring 2025 season was reported at about 160,000 visitors (a later report says 170,000).
2024 7 Sep – 31 Oct 2024 ended First edition: about 300,000 visitors and about ₩1.2 billion in revenue. Announced for 7 Sep–13 Oct (six weeks); the city's closing report describes a seven-week run ending 31 Oct (and gives 13 Sep as the start, which conflicts with the 7 Sep opening), so the end date is uncertain.

Before or after the festival

Places you can fit in before or after the festival without missing the shuttle or the last train or bus back.

  • Hantangang Geopark Center (한탄강세계지질공원센터)Before

A geology museum by Bidulginang Falls that explains how the lava plateau and basalt gorge under the festival were formed, with a children's geology play room and a 4D 'canyon escape' ride. Go first: it opens at 09:30 (last entry 17:00, closed Tuesdays), and the festival grounds stay open until 18:00. Listings disagree on the fee (a few thousand won); under-7s and over-65s enter free.

Getting there: About 1 km on foot from the Y-shaped bridge at the festival site (1,145 m); no bus between them

  • Bidulginang Falls (비둘기낭 폭포)Before or after

A waterfall dropping into a round hollow of basalt columns above blue-green water, reached by steps from a free public car park. It is free and outside the paid grounds, so see it before you go in or after the 17:00 last entry while it is light. Drivers can park here rather than at the bridge lots, which fill on autumn weekends, and walk to the festival on the deck path.

Getting there: About 200 m from the Y-shaped bridge on a deck path; free

  • Getting awayAfter

Without a car, getting away is the hard part. The grounds close at 18:00: walk about 5 minutes to the Yaksu-dong stop for local bus 100, 60-1 or 60-2 towards Pocheon City Hall, for buses to Seoul and Uijeongbu. Times were not confirmed and buses are few: check the last ones in Naver Map or Kakao Map before you set off, allow about 2 hours to Uijeongbu Station, and keep a taxi as the fallback.

Questions travelers ask

When is the Pocheon Hantangang Garden Festa 2026?

The autumn season runs 12 September–1 November 2026 (51 days), 09:00–18:00 with last entry at 17:00, at the Hantangang Ecological Landscape Complex in Gwanin-myeon, Pocheon. A listing built on KTO data says it is closed on Tuesdays, so check before travelling. The spring 2026 season ran 1 May–7 June.

How much is admission?

₩7,000 for adults (19 and over) and ₩5,000 for teens and children. ₩4,000 or ₩3,000 of that is refunded as Pocheon Love gift certificates, to spend at the on-site market and food stalls or in Pocheon. Seniors and residents of Seoul's Nowon-gu, Jung-gu and Gangdong-gu pay half; Pocheon residents, preschool children under 7, disabled visitors and national merit holders enter free with proof.

Is the Y-shaped suspension bridge included?

Yes. The 410 m bridge, opened with the first Garden Festa on 7 September 2024, is inside the paid festival area while the festival runs and free at other times. It is open 09:00–18:00 (last entry 17:00) and closes in bad weather. The deck is metal grating with the river visible below, so think twice if you dislike heights.

How do I get there without a car?

There is no rail station nearby and no festival shuttle. Take a bus from Dong Seoul Terminal or Uijeongbu Station to Pocheon, then local bus 100, 60-1 or 60-2 from the stops around Pocheon City Hall to the Yaksu-dong stop, about 5 minutes' walk from the site. Allow plenty of time: bus times and fares were not confirmed, and one walker needed about 2 hours with two changes from nearby Yeongbuk-myeon back to Uijeongbu. By car it is about 1 hour 30 minutes from Seoul.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes. In spring 2026 the rules were a leash of no more than 2 m, an ID tag and waste bags, with breeds classed as dangerous refused and a muzzle for dogs that bite. On the electric bicycles pets must be in a carrier or on a short leash.

Is it held every year?

Pocheon started the Garden Festa in autumn 2024 and has held it every spring and autumn since: autumn seasons from 7 September 2024 (to the end of October), 6 September–2 November 2025 and 12 September–1 November 2026, with spring seasons in 2025 and 2026. By October 2026 the seasons together had passed one million visitors. The 2027 dates have not been announced.
