What it is like
Goseong, a rural county about an hour's drive west of Busan, has more than 4,000 dinosaur footprints in its coastal rocks, the best known at Sangjokam County Park, and it has built its tourism around them. The Dinosaur World Expo is the showcase: a dinosaur theme exhibition of several weeks at Danghangpo Tourist Site, a seaside park in Hoehwa-myeon that is also the site of one of Admiral Yi Sun-sin's sea battles against Japanese forces. The first expo was held in 2006, and at first it came round only every three or four years (2006, 2009, 2012 and 2016), each drawing 1.5–1.7 million visitors. A fifth expo planned for spring 2020 did not take place; the expo came back in autumn 2021 and has been held every autumn since, which makes 2026 the 10th edition and the 20th anniversary, under the theme "An Exciting Adventure with Dinosaurs".
The grounds combine a permanent Dinosaur Theme Zone and Yi Sun-sin Theme Zone, a coastal walkway and a dinosaur-footprint trail with seasonal shows. The 2026 programme has a daily dinosaur parade with five new parade carts, a circus and a robot-dinosaur live show, a large outdoor fossil dig, the Dino Puzzle, an art playground along the coastal road, a feeding-dinosaur attraction with extra units to cut queues, a Future Science Lab of more than 50 devices made with five national science museums, and a 1,200 m² playground themed on the toddler character Bebefinn. Fireworks go up every Saturday, and on night-opening days the grounds stay open until 22:00 for a night parade and a Garden of Light walk.
Tickets at the gate cost ₩19,000 for adults and ₩13,000 for children; the cheaper presale ended the day before opening. Parking is free this year. The expo is aimed squarely at families with young children: the programme is in Korean, much of the site is open ground with little shade, and weekends and public holidays are crowded, with school groups on weekdays.
The honest caveat is access. Goseong has no railway, the bus from Seoul Nambu Terminal takes just under four hours to Goseong's terminal, and Danghangpo lies outside Goseong town, a taxi or rural-bus ride away. After the 18:00 close, the 18:25 bus to Seoul is very hard to catch, which leaves the 22:35 night bus (arriving 03:11); most visitors from Seoul will want to stay overnight in Goseong or nearby, or come by car.
Highlights
- Dinosaur parade every day, with five new parade carts for the 20th anniversary in 2026
- Fireworks every Saturday, plus a night parade and a Garden of Light walk on night-opening days, when the grounds stay open until 22:00
- Hands-on zones for children: a large outdoor fossil dig, the Dino Puzzle, feeding dinosaurs and an art playground along the coastal road
- Future Science Lab with more than 50 science devices developed with five national science museums (new in 2026)
- 1,200 m² Bebefinn playground with 14 programmes in six zones for toddlers and young children
- Seaside Danghangpo site with a dinosaur-footprint trail, a natural history museum and the Yi Sun-sin Theme Zone
Who it suits. Best for families with children from toddler to primary-school age, and for travellers curious about Korea's dinosaur-footprint coast who are driving along the south coast; less suited to visitors relying on public transport from Seoul or looking for programmes in English.
Getting there
From Seoul
Intercity bus from Seoul Nambu Terminal to Goseong Intercity Bus Terminal (고성여객자동차터미널): 11 a day, 3 h 51 m, ₩37,300 deluxe (₩28,700 for the standard bus, ₩44,800 for the late-night bus). Danghangpo is outside Goseong town in Hoehwa-myeon: take a taxi, or rural bus 777, a loop from Goseong terminal that calls at Baedun Intercity Bus Terminal and the Danghangpo stop (timetable not checked). By rail, the KTX from Seoul Station to Changwon Jungang takes about 2 h 44 m (₩47,400 standard class in the fare table from 1 September 2026, when SRT services were merged into KTX); from Masan Nambu Terminal, intercity buses reach Goseong in 46 minutes (₩6,700, 35 a day).
From Busan
Intercity bus from Busan Seobu (Sasang) Terminal to Goseong Intercity Bus Terminal: 25 a day, 1 h 38 m, ₩13,300; then a taxi or rural bus to Danghangpo. By car Goseong is about an hour west of Busan. Return bus times from Goseong to Busan were not checked.
From Incheon Airport
AREX or an airport bus into Seoul, then the bus from Seoul Nambu Terminal (3 h 51 m to Goseong); or a domestic flight to Gimhae Airport (Busan), the light rail to Sasang and the intercity bus from Busan Seobu Terminal (1 h 38 m). Allow most of a day either way.
Last leg from Goseong Intercity Bus Terminal (Goseong has no railway station)
Intercity buses from Seoul Nambu, Busan Seobu (Sasang) and Masan Nambu. Not walkable; taxi, or rural bus 777, which calls at Baedun Intercity Bus Terminal and the Danghangpo stop
Festival shuttle
No 2026 festival shuttle from Goseong terminal, Baedun or Masan was found on the pages opened; ask the Goseong Culture & Tourism Foundation (055-670-7400) before travelling.
Getting home
The expo closes at 18:00 (22:00 on night-opening days). Buses from Goseong Intercity Bus Terminal back to Seoul Nambu take about 4 hours and run only a few times in the afternoon and evening, so to reach Seoul the same night, leave the grounds in mid-afternoon; otherwise plan on a late-night bus or an overnight stay. Check the last bus to Seoul at Goseong Intercity Bus Terminal before the festival day, and allow time for a taxi or rural bus from Danghangpo to the terminal. Return buses to Busan and Masan were not checked.
Parking
Free throughout the 2026 expo; the county dropped the parking fee to ease queues at the entrance. Outside the expo Danghangpo charges ₩3,000 per car (Goseong residents free).
How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English
Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.
Before you go
1330 · Travel hotline
The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.
112 / 119 · Emergencies
112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.
T-money card
Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.
Maps
Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.
Trains and buses
Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

Before or after the festival
Places you can fit in before or after the festival without missing the shuttle or the last train or bus back.
A grassy hill of seven Gaya burial mounds from around 400 CE in Goseong town, once the centre of the Sogaya kingdom and part of the Gaya Tumuli World Heritage Site since 2023: you walk the paths over and between the mounds, and the free Goseong Museum, 116 m away, shows finds from them. The mounds are open at all times, so they fit after the expo while you wait for a bus at Goseong terminal; the museum (09:00–18:00, last entry 17:30; 09:00–17:00 on 1 Nov; closed Mondays) fits only on the way in.
