What it is like

MAMF started in Seoul in 2005 as a multicultural festival supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and moved in 2010 to Changwon, the capital of Gyeongsangnam-do, where it has been held every year since. Migrant residents are among its core organisers, and the Gyeongnam Migrant Workers' Welfare Center is one of the four hosts alongside the province, the city and the Changwon Culture Foundation. In 2015 a national integration committee under the president named it a model for social integration. Each year one guest country takes the spotlight: Pakistan in 2023, the Philippines in 2024, Mongolia in 2025 and Uzbekistan in 2026.

The 2026 edition is the 21st, under the slogan 'Twenty-One, One World' (스물하나, 하나의 세상), with 22 countries and 10 embassies taking part. Uzbekistan's National Art Troupe, a traditional dance company and an orchestra working with the Korea National University of Arts, plays the Grand Theater of Seongsan Art Hall on 23 and 24 October. On Saturday 24 October the Korea Migrant Song Festival final fills the main stage in Yongji Culture Park with 12 finalists picked from more than 280 applicants, after auditions in Seoul, Chungcheong and Busan. Sunday 25 October brings the Cultural Diversity Parade along Jungang-daero, Changwon's wide central boulevard: 19 teams from 16 countries, including 9 professional troupes from abroad, 3 from Korea and the Navy's Korean traditional music band. Across the weekend there are Migrants' Arirang stages run by 14 migrant communities, a world music concert, country culture booths under the banner 'Travel the World Without Leaving the City', the Global Village Bazaar and flea market, a trial job-advice booth for foreign workers and a policy forum with Seoul National University.

Entry is free, and KTO lists the hours as 10:00–20:30. Organisers expect about 350,000 visitors in 2026, including about 500 travelling from 12 countries; the 2025 edition drew more than 310,000. Jungang-daero is usually closed to traffic for the parade, so come by public transport.

Honest caveats: most of the programme is in Korean or the performers' own languages, and no English guide was found. The 2026 start times for the opening ceremony, the parade and the evening concerts had not been published on the pages checked, and the official site could not be opened for this record. The festival ends at 20:30 and the last trains to Seoul leave in the evening, so check the last train in the Korail+ app (코레일+) and stay in Changwon or Busan if you want the evening shows. Changwon's Masan Gagopa Chrysanthemum Festival opens the following Saturday, 31 October, so the two do not overlap.

Highlights

  • Cultural Diversity Parade along Jungang-daero on Sunday 25 October 2026: 19 teams from 16 countries, including 9 overseas and 3 Korean professional troupes and the Navy's Korean traditional music band
  • Guest country Uzbekistan: special shows by the Uzbekistan National Art Troupe in the Grand Theater of Seongsan Art Hall on 23 and 24 October 2026
  • Korea Migrant Song Festival final on the Yongji Culture Park main stage, Saturday 24 October 2026: 12 finalists chosen from more than 280 applicants
  • Migrants' Arirang stages run by 14 migrant communities, plus a world music concert
  • 'Travel the World Without Leaving the City' country culture booths, the Global Village Bazaar and flea market, and food from many countries
  • Free entry, with 22 countries and 10 embassies taking part in 2026

Who it suits. Best for travelers curious about the migrant communities living in Korea, families and photographers who want a colourful free parade and world food, and anyone spending the weekend in Busan or Changwon; less suited to visitors who need an English-language programme or exact show times planned in advance.

Getting there

From Seoul

KTX from Seoul Station to Changwon Jungang Station, about 2 h 44 m; Korail's fare table from 1 September 2026 lists ₩47,400 standard class (₩47,000 on trains via Seodaegu). Since the KTX–SRT merger on 1 September 2026, all these trains are booked in the Korail+ app. From the station take a taxi (about 6 minutes) or walk (about 30 minutes) to Jungang-daero at the Gyeongnam Office of Education, beside Yongji Culture Park.

From Busan

Intercity bus from Busan Central Bus Terminal (Nopo) to Changwon Central Bus Terminal: 12 departures a day, about 1 h 24 m, ₩8,000 (weekday timetable, October 2026). From the Changwon terminal a city bus takes about 30 minutes, or a taxi 15–20 minutes, to the Office of Education stop area on Jungang-daero next to the festival. Buses from Busan Seobu (Sasang) Terminal and trains from Busan were not checked.

From Incheon Airport

AREX to Seoul Station, then KTX to Changwon Jungang Station; or a domestic flight to Gimhae Airport (Busan) and a bus or taxi on to Changwon. Allow most of a day either way.

Last leg from Changwon Jungang Station

Korail Gyeongjeon Line (KTX). About 30 minutes on foot, or about 6 minutes by taxi, to the Gyeongnam Office of Education on Jungang-daero, at the edge of the festival area

Festival shuttle

No festival shuttle was found in the sources checked. City buses run along Jungang-daero past the Gyeongnam Provincial Office and the Office of Education, for example express buses 3000 and 3004 and seated buses 730 and 740 (per the Office of Education's directions page); expect detours while the road is closed for the parade.

Getting home

The festival closes at 20:30, and the last KTX trains from Changwon Jungang Station to Seoul Station and Suseo leave in the evening (the last to Suseo much earlier than the last to Seoul Station). The times for 23–25 October 2026 have not been confirmed from Korail's timetable for those days, so check the last train in the Korail+ app (코레일+) or at the station before you go, leave well before the end, or stay overnight in Changwon or Busan. The last bus from Changwon Central Bus Terminal to Busan was not checked.

Parking

Yongji Culture Park has a car park (size and fee not published), and Yongji Lake Park, about 630 m away, has parking that KTO lists as free (a listings site describes a paid public lot). Sections of Jungang-daero close to traffic for the festival, above all on parade day; the 2026 sections and times were not published on the pages checked, and closure times from earlier editions do not apply. Public transport and taxis are easier.

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English

Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.

Before you go

1330 · Travel hotline

The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.

112 / 119 · Emergencies

112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.

T-money card

Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.

Maps

Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.

Trains and buses

Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

What we could not confirm

  • 2026 start times of the opening ceremony, the Cultural Diversity Parade, the song festival final and the world music concert were not published on the pages checked; the official site mamf.co.kr was not opened (no search returned it).
  • Whether the Uzbekistan National Art Troupe performances at Seongsan Art Hall are free or need tickets or reservations.
  • Exact 2026 parade route and road-closure sections and times on Jungang-daero: news says only that the route is longer than in 2025 and the performance zone is near the General Choi Yun-deok statue. The 2024 closure times were removed from Getting there and the parade FAQ on 24 October 2026 as not valid for this edition; no 2026 notice was found in two searches that day.
  • Hours: KTO gives 10:00–20:30 for 2026 and a listing site gave 10:00–21:00 for 2025; evening concerts may run later than either.
  • Edition numbering: the festival began in 2005, yet 2022 was the 17th and 2026 the 21st, which implies one year was not counted.
  • Japanese and Chinese names were not found on a KTO or official page.
  • Festival parking: size and fee of the Yongji Culture Park car park; KTO calls Yongji Lake Park parking free, a listings site says paid.
  • Last KTX times from Changwon Jungang to Seoul Station and Suseo on 23–25 October 2026 were not confirmed from Korail's timetable for those days (clock times removed from the page on 22 October 2026); journey time and fares are copied from the site's Jinhae Gunhangje record. Fare and time for Changwon Station, the other KTX stop in Changwon, were not checked.
  • Busan Seobu (Sasang) to Changwon buses, first and last Busan–Changwon bus times for the festival days (confirmed only from a third-party timetable mirror, so clock times were removed), the last bus from Changwon back to Busan, and the city bus route numbers from Changwon Central Bus Terminal to the festival were not verified.
  • Accessibility, rain policy, foreign-card acceptance and festival-specific pet rules were not published.
  • 2027 dates and guest country have not been announced; no licensed photo was recorded.
  • Changwon Sculpture Biennale at Seongsan Art Hall: opening hours, closed days and admission were not published on the pages checked; the official site (changwonbiennale.or.kr) was not opened.
  • Yongji Lake Park music fountain: daily show times in late October 2026 were not checked (KTO says only April–October).

Changes: 2026-10-18 — Added to the site: fact-first record (dates, hours, prices, getting there, sources). · 2026-10-19 — Rechecked before the 2026 edition: parade route lengthened and performance zone moved near the General Choi Yun-deok statue; dates unchanged. · 2026-10-19 — Added a Wikimedia Commons photograph of the entrance sculpture of Yongji Culture Park (Ossewa, CC BY-SA 4.0). · 2026-10-22 — Rechecked before the 2026 edition: dates, venues and free entry unchanged; programme start times and road closures still unpublished; last-train and bus clock times removed until they can be confirmed for 23–25 October (check the last train in the Korail app). · 2026-10-24 — Nearby rewritten as 'Before or after the festival' (shuttle and last-train fit): added the Changwon Sculpture Biennale, rewrote Yongji Lake Park, dropped the chrysanthemum festival (opens after MAMF); transport: removed 2024 road-closure times (not valid this year), last-train check points to Korail+ (코레일+); prices: unchanged (free).
