What it is like

Gasi-ri is a farming village on the eastern slopes of Hallasan in Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo, known for its oreum (volcanic cones), open grassland and canola fields. The plateau was once Gapmajang, described as the largest horse-breeding pasture of the Joseon era. Every spring Noksan-ro, the scenic road through the village, turns yellow with canola for more than 10 km, and in good years the cherry trees along it bloom at the same time. The festival takes place on one weekend near the peak, around the Jorangmal Horse Experience Park, with about 100,000 m² of fields to walk through. It goes back decades. In 1993 the Jeju Tourism Association was planning a canola festival. By 2014 it was held in Gasi-ri as the Jeju Canola Flower Festival (제주유채꽃큰잔치), with horse-carriage rides, canola oil pressing and a walk on the old Gapmajang pasture road. In 2020 Seogwipo City cancelled it because of COVID-19 and shredded the flowers. It returned in April 2021 as a scaled-down 38th edition, with no side events and no more than 350 people in the field at a time. The 43rd edition ran on 4–5 April 2026, 10:00–20:00, with free entry. Its main programmes were a night opening and a running programme, with one-day classes, village programmes and busking around them. In 2025 part of Noksan-ro was closed to cars so visitors could walk the flower road, and a talk concert for pets and their owners was held. Two things to know before you plan. First, the dates follow the bloom, so they move between late March and early April. Second, the site is rural: no festival shuttle or confirmed bus route was found, so most visitors come by rental car or taxi. The canola is out for most of March, so the fields are worth a visit outside the festival weekend too. Do not confuse the festival with the Seogwipo Canola International Walking Event, a separate walk held the weekend before (28–29 March in 2026).

Highlights

  • About 100,000 m² of canola fields along Noksan-ro in Gasi-ri, open to walk through during the festival
  • Noksan-ro itself: more than 10 km of canola, with cherry trees that often bloom at the same time; both were in full bloom on the closing day in 2026
  • A night opening of the fields, one of the two main programmes in 2026
  • A running programme through the flowers (2026)
  • One-day classes, canola bouquet making, village programmes, busking and a flea market
  • A car-free stretch of Noksan-ro during the festival (2025), and volcanic cones such as Ttarabi Oreum about 1.7 km away

Who it suits. Best for photographers, couples and families touring eastern Jeju by car. Less suited to visitors who rely on public transport or want a big-stage programme: the site is rural, no festival shuttle was published, and the festival lasts only one weekend.

Getting there

From Seoul

Fly from Gimpo to Jeju International Airport: about 1 h 15 min on most flights, with dozens a day (124 scheduled departures a day in the schedule running to 24 October 2026). Jeju has no trains. Gasi-ri is in the island's eastern uplands. A taxi from the airport takes about 50 minutes, and by rental car it is about 40 minutes from Jeju City on Route 97 (third-party guide). Local buses run toward Pyoseon-myeon, about an hour from the airport, but the route numbers and the stop for the festival were not verified, so check a bus app before relying on them.

From Busan

Fly from Gimhae (Busan) to Jeju International Airport, then take a taxi or rental car as above.

From Incheon Airport

Transfer to Gimpo Airport on the AREX airport railroad for the frequent Gimpo–Jeju flights, then continue from Jeju International Airport by taxi or rental car.

Festival shuttle

No festival shuttle was found for 2026 on the pages opened.

Getting home

Jeju has no trains. The 2026 festival ran until 20:00 (KTO). Evening flights from Jeju back to Gimpo were not checked, so check the last flight in your airline's app before you go. With about 50 minutes by taxi to the airport, stay the night on Jeju if you want the night opening, or book a taxi back in advance.

Parking

No festival parking plan was published on the pages opened. Part of Noksan-ro closes to cars during the festival (2025), so expect to park away from the flower road and walk in.

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English

Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.

Before you go

1330 · Travel hotline

The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.

112 / 119 · Emergencies

112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.

T-money card

Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.

Maps

Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.

Trains and buses

Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

Not announced as of 19 October 2026. 2025 29–30 Mar 2025 ended Jorangmal Experience Park area.

Before or after the festival

Places you can fit in before or after the festival without missing the shuttle or the last train or bus back.

  • Ttarabi Oreum (따라비오름)Before

A volcanic cone with three craters and six peaks, called the 'queen of oreum' by Jeju walkers; the path to the summit takes about 30 minutes and is free. Climb it in the morning before the festival (10:00–20:00 in 2026) fills up, or in the late afternoon before the night opening. Early April on the open plateau can be windy, so bring a windproof layer.

Getting there: About 1.7 km from the festival site in a straight line (KTO), with a free car park; by taxi or rental car, check the route in a map app

  • Jorangmal Horse Experience Park (Jeju Horse Park) (조랑말체험공원)Before or after

A village-built horse park on Gapmajang, the Joseon-era pasture where Gasi-ri raised horses for the royal court, with the Jeju Horse Museum (free), short pony rides and horse feeding. It is the centre of the festival site, so drop in between programmes: VisitJeju gives 10:00–18:00 with ticket sales ending 30 minutes before (KTO lists 09:00–18:00) and closes it on Tuesdays, which does not clash with a weekend festival. Rides start at about ₩12,000 for five minutes.

Getting there: At the festival site (Noksan-ro 381-15/381-17), on foot; museum free

  • Getting awayAfter

The site is in Jeju's eastern uplands, about 50 minutes by taxi from the airport, and no festival shuttle or verified bus was found. Arrange the way back before you go: book a taxi back in advance or come by rental car. For the night opening, stay the night on Jeju rather than aiming for a late flight.

Questions travelers ask

When is the Seogwipo Canola Flower Festival 2027?

Not yet announced as of 19 October 2026. Expect a weekend in late March or early April 2027, timed to the bloom: the 2026 edition ran 4–5 April and the 2025 edition 29–30 March.

Does the Seogwipo Canola Flower Festival cost money?

No. Entry was free in 2026 (KTO), and the festival ran 10:00–20:00 on both days. Food and market goods are paid.

Where is the canola festival on Jeju?

In Gasi-ri, Pyoseon-myeon, in the east of Seogwipo, around the Jorangmal Horse Experience Park at 381-17 Noksan-ro. Noksan-ro is the canola road of more than 10 km that runs through the village, with about 100,000 m² of fields at the festival site.

How do I get to Gasi-ri from Jeju Airport?

A taxi takes about 50 minutes, and a rental car about 40 minutes from Jeju City on Route 97. Local buses toward Pyoseon-myeon take about an hour, but check the route and stop in a bus app first. No festival shuttle was found for 2026.

Do the canola and cherry blossoms bloom at the same time on Noksan-ro?

Often, yes. Cherry trees line the road beside the canola, and both were in full bloom on the festival's closing day, 5 April 2026. The canola alone is out for most of March.

Is this the same as the Seogwipo Canola International Walking Event?

No. The walking event is separate; in 2026 it ran the weekend before the festival, on 28–29 March. In 2018 its 5, 10 and 20 km courses started at Jeju World Cup Stadium in Seogwipo, and entry cost ₩10,000.
