The Goheung Yuzu Festival (고흥유자축제) is a four-day harvest festival in the yuzu orchards of Handong-ri, Pungyang-myeon, in Goheung, Jeollanam-do, the county that grows most of Korea's yuzu. The 6th edition runs 12–15 November 2026, 10:00–22:00, with yuzu picking, a yuzu foot spa, lit-up orchards and nightly concerts. Entry is free; some activities, such as yuzu picking, cost extra (2026 fees not yet published). From Seoul, direct express buses from Central City Terminal take 4 h 24 m (₩42,800), or take the KTX to Suncheon and a bus of about 1 hour.

What it is like

Goheung, a peninsula county on the south coast of Jeollanam-do, grows most of Korea's yuzu (yuja): Korea Tourism Organization data put its share at roughly 60–70% of national output, and about 200,000 yuzu trees stand around Handong-ri in Pungyang-myeon, where the festival is held. The event began in October 2019 as the Goheung Yuja-Seokryu (yuzu and pomegranate) Festival, came back in November 2022 after a three-year pandemic break, and has run as the Goheung Yuzu Festival since the 3rd edition in 2023. It has grown fast, from about 173,000 visitors in 2024 to about 300,000 in 2025, and Jeollanam-do moved it up from a 'promising' to an 'excellent' provincial festival in 2025.

The dates follow the November harvest, when the orchards are full of ripe fruit. By day you can walk the 'Yuyujeokjeok' yuzu road through the orchards, pick your own fruit (₩10,000 per kilogram in 2025, with gloves and scissors handed out), make yuzu-cheong (preserve) and other products in workshops, soak your feet in a yuzu spa, and eat in a large, deliberately cheap dining zone whose stalls come from local residents' groups and restaurants: Goheung seafood, hanwoo beef, yuzu ramen and yuzu makgeolli. After dark the orchards are lit with luminaries and a 'Milky Way of light', and each night closes with a main-stage concert of Korean pop and trot singers; drone shows ran in 2023–2025, with 1,000 drones a night in 2025.

The 2026 edition, the 6th, runs from Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 November, 10:00–22:00, on about 70,400 m² of grounds. It opens with the '1004' event, in which 1,004 yuzu farmers, volunteers and visitors pack yuzu preserve together, and adds a storytelling program about a 1,000-year-old yuzu spring, a new landmark sculpture, a farmers' parade and a fire-art show.

Honest caveats: Goheung is far from Seoul (4 h 24 m by direct bus, and the last direct bus back leaves in the late afternoon, before the lights come on), so an overnight stay or a late KTX from Suncheon makes more sense than a same-day bus trip. The grounds are in the countryside outside Goheung-eup and are reached by festival shuttle or taxi, and the main car park filled soon after 10:00 on the 2025 Sunday. No English program information was found, and prices for the paid activities in 2026 had not been published by mid-October.

Highlights

  • Pick-your-own yuzu in working orchards: 10:00–17:00 in 2025 at ₩10,000 per kg (about 7–8 fruits), with gloves, scissors and a bag provided
  • Opening day, 12 Nov 2026: the '1004' yuzu-cheong packing and sharing event with 1,004 farmers, volunteers and visitors
  • Nightly main-stage concerts in 2026: KCM, Ulala Session, Kim Hyun-jung and Chae Yeon on 13 Nov; Ben, Monday Kiz, DK and Solji on 14 Nov; Choi Su-ho and Jeon Yu-jin among the acts on 15 Nov
  • Orchards lit with luminaries and a 'Milky Way of light' until 22:00; 2025 added a 1,000-drone show every night
  • Yuzu spa foot bath and yuzu therapy (the 2025 spa area was three times the size of 2024's)
  • Low-price dining zone with Goheung seafood and hanwoo: seafood salads and grills at ₩15,000 and a hanwoo patty at ₩13,000 in 2024; 1,200 seats in 2025
  • Goheung Yuja Park observation deck, about 388 m from the grounds, looking over the yuzu fields and Goheung Bay

Who it suits. Best for food lovers and families who want a hands-on harvest day in the countryside, and for travelers combining it with an overnight stay on Goheung's coast; less suited to a same-day trip from Seoul by direct bus (4 h 24 m each way, last bus back in the late afternoon) or to anyone who needs English-language programs.

Getting there

From Seoul

Express bus from Seoul Central City Terminal (Honam line) to Goheung Public Bus Terminal: 4 a day, 4 h 24 m, ₩42,800 (deluxe). More frequent: KTX from Yongsan to Suncheon (most trains about 2 h 35 m–2 h 50 m, ₩42,300), then an intercity bus from the Suncheon Station stop or Suncheon terminal to Goheung (about 1 h 5 m). Beolgyo Station on the Gyeongjeon Line is about 31 minutes from Goheung by bus. From Goheung-eup, festival shuttle buses run to the grounds in Handong-ri, Pungyang-myeon; otherwise take a taxi.

From Busan

Intercity buses link Busan Seobu (Sasang) Terminal and Goheung about three times a day each way, taking about 3 h to 3 h 42 m (₩34,300 deluxe). Alternatively go to Suncheon and change to one of the frequent Suncheon–Goheung buses (23 a day from Goheung to Suncheon terminal).

Last leg from Suncheon Station (KTX), then intercity bus to Goheung

Korail Jeolla Line (KTX from Yongsan; a few from Suseo). Not walkable; buses between the Suncheon Station stop and Goheung take about 1 h 7 m, then the festival shuttle or a taxi from Goheung-eup to the grounds

Festival shuttle

For 2026 the county says it will add buses and run them more often between Goheung-eup and the grounds; no 2026 route, timetable or fare had been found by 28 October 2026. In 2025 a loop route linked the salt-factory car park, the festival grounds, the township office and the Agricultural Technology Center car park, with wheelchair-accessible vehicles (visitor guide summary).

Getting home

Direct express buses back to Seoul Central City are few, and their times could not be checked against the operator's current timetable. To stay into the evening, the alternative is an intercity bus from Goheung terminal to the Suncheon Station stop (about 1 h 5 m) and a KTX from Suncheon to Yongsan (most trains about 2 h 35 m–2 h 50 m). A new KTX timetable starts on 1 November, so check the last train in the Korail+ app (코레일+) or at Suncheon Station, and the last buses at Goheung terminal, before the festival day; allow time for the shuttle or a taxi from the grounds to Goheung terminal.

Parking

2025: festival car park P1, a VIP lot P2 and temporary lots P3–P8, with 700 more spaces than in 2024. On the 2025 Sunday the main lot filled up early in the morning, and later arrivals used outlying lots and the shuttle (visitor report). In 2024 eight lots were recommended, including the Handong area community centre. More temporary parking is planned for 2026.

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English

Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.

Before you go

1330 · Travel hotline

The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.

112 / 119 · Emergencies

112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.

T-money card

Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.

Maps

Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.

Trains and buses

Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

Before or after the festival

Places you can fit in before or after the festival without missing the shuttle or the last train or bus back.

  • Goheung Yuja Park (고흥 유자공원)Before or after

A county park opened in 2008 beside the festival orchards, with an observation deck over the yuzu fields and Goheung Bay, walking trails and a spring. Free and open at all hours, it fits either side of the programme: in daylight for the view across the orchards to the bay, or after dark when the orchards are lit for the festival's night programme. Tip: bring a warm layer; visitors in 2025 found the festival's observation point windy.

Getting there: About 400 m from the festival grounds (KTO gives 388 m); on foot, free

  • Getting awayAfter

Getting home is the hard part: take the shuttle (2026 routes and times not yet published) or a taxi from the grounds to Goheung terminal, then a bus to Suncheon (about 1 h 5 m) for the KTX, or one of the 4 daily direct buses to Seoul. Check the last buses at Goheung terminal and the last KTX in the Korail+ app (코레일+) before the day; to stay for the evening concert, book a night in Goheung.

What we could not confirm

  • The official site (goheungyuja.com) could not be opened in this session; 2026 dates, hours and programs come from KTO data and county-sourced news, and concert start times for 2026 were not found (18:00 in 2024).
  • 2026 prices for paid programs (yuzu picking, workshops, spa) were still unpublished on 28 Oct 2026; no fee is given until the organizer's notice (a 2025 visitor report gave ₩10,000 per kg for picking).
  • 2026 shuttle routes, times and fare were still unpublished in searches on 28 Oct 2026; the 2025 loop route comes from a blog summary of official information.
  • Travel time and taxi fare from Goheung bus terminal to the grounds, and local bus numbers, were not verified.
  • KTO now lists the address under 전남광주통합특별시 (Jeonnam-Gwangju integrated special city, launched 1 July 2026); the record keeps Jeollanam-do, as other records do, pending a site-wide decision.
  • Japanese and Chinese names not verified on a KTO foreign-language page.
  • Busan bus times were confirmed only for departures from Goheung; the Busan-to-Goheung times (3 a day, about 3 h) come from a blog citing county information.
  • Last train back from Suncheon to Yongsan and Suseo, and the last buses from Goheung (direct to Seoul and to Suncheon), on 12–15 Nov 2026 under the timetables in force those days.

Changes: 2026-10-18 — Added to the site: fact-first record (dates, hours, prices, getting there, sources). · 2026-10-18 — Added a Goheung County press photograph of the 2025 festival (yuzu orchard path), KOGL Type 1. · 2026-10-20 — Bus class corrected from the timetable: the fare listed as premium is deluxe (우등). · 2026-10-21 — Transport: removed bus and KTX clock times taken from the October timetable and third-party mirrors (a new KTX timetable starts on 1 November) and the 2025 shuttle hours; the page now says to check last trains and buses before travelling. · 2026-10-27 — Transport check: no Korail (1 Nov 2026 timetable), bus-operator or county shuttle notice for 12–15 Nov 2026 could be checked, so no clock times added; removed 2025 car-park clock times; app name corrected to Korail+ (코레일+). · 2026-10-28 — Nearby rewritten as 'Before or after the festival' (shuttle and last-train fit); transport: no clock times to verify (2026 shuttle still unpublished), 2025 shuttle frequency removed and way-home advice added; prices: 2025 yuzu-picking fee removed from the answer, practical and FAQ (2026 fees not yet published).
