What it is like

Dream Park is the green side of the Sudokwon Landfill, the huge landfill on Incheon's northwest edge that takes rubbish from a capital region of about 25 million people. Its Wildflower Complex is an urban forest the size of about 60 football pitches, laid out on a former coal-ash storage yard, with about 300 plant species, wetland boardwalks, an observation deck, walking trails and a dog play area. The site's operator, the Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation (SLC), opens it from April to November and runs seasonal events there, including a cherry-blossom walk in spring.

The chrysanthemum festival is older than the park's regular April–November opening; the complex used to open only for it. SLC called the 2013 festival the 10th, and in the early 2010s it was one of the busiest flower events in the country: the corporation counted about 1.53 million visitors in 2013 and about 2.2 million in 2014, most of them arriving by car. In 2015 it was scaled down and renamed Dream Park Autumn Outing, and after a six-year break it came back in 2024 under its old name. The 2024 edition ran 12 days, the 2025 edition 14.

The 2026 edition runs for ten days, 16–25 October. Large beds of sunflowers, pink muhly, zinnias, yellow cosmos, purpletop verbena, gaura and marigolds frame displays of chrysanthemum and flower topiary, chrysanthemum bonsai and sculptures, with photo zones throughout. The programme includes the Dream Park Autumn Concert with invited singers and local arts groups, a children's magic show, the Dream Park Audition singing contest open to anyone, fire-safety experiences, an outdoor library and guided landfill tours with environmental education. Residents of the villages around the landfill run the food market, which serves food in reusable containers only. Dates and times for the individual performances were not published on the pages opened.

The honest caveats: Dream Park is off most bus routes and is not walkable from a station, so without a car the last leg is a local bus plus a walk, or a taxi. Weekends are busy and the free car parks fill. The grounds are large, so expect a lot of walking, and the displays are planted on reclaimed land rather than in a historic garden. Last entry is at 17:00.

Highlights

  • Chrysanthemum and flower topiary, chrysanthemum bonsai and sculptures among beds of sunflowers, pink muhly, zinnias, yellow cosmos and marigolds (2026)
  • Free entry and free parking; 16–25 October 2026, 10:00–18:00, last entry 17:00
  • Dream Park Autumn Concert with invited singers and local arts groups, a children's magic show and the Dream Park Audition, a singing contest open to anyone
  • Guided landfill tours with environmental education, fire-safety experiences and an outdoor library
  • Food market run by residents near the landfill, using reusable containers only, plus a sales booth with Incheon's Mutual Growth Retail Support Center
  • A park the size of about 60 football pitches on a former coal-ash storage yard, with about 300 plant species

Who it suits. Best for families and couples, especially visitors in their 40s and 50s (the festival's core audience in a 2014 survey), who want a free, unhurried flower outing near Seoul or Incheon and ideally have a car. Less suited to travellers without a car who mind a local bus and a walk, or to anyone expecting a historic garden rather than planted displays on a reclaimed landfill.

Getting there

From Seoul

Take AREX (Airport Railroad, all-stop train) from Seoul Station to Geomam Station: 7 stops, about 30-odd minutes. Geomam is also on Incheon Line 2. From the stop across the road from Exit 3 (stop no. 42851, by Geomam Middle School), take bus 43. One guide says to get off at the fourth stop, opposite the Dream Park aquatics centre, and walk through its car park to the complex behind it; another names the stop Hwallyongsa Entrance (활룡사입구) and puts the walk at about 17 minutes. A taxi from Geomam Station is the simpler last leg. Most visitors drive and use the free car parks.

From Busan

KTX from Busan to Seoul Station, then AREX to Geomam and bus 43 or a taxi, as above.

From Incheon Airport

AREX all-stop train from either terminal towards Seoul as far as Geomam, then bus 43 or a taxi as above. By car it is about 40 minutes from the airport.

Last leg from Geomam Station

AREX (Airport Railroad) and Incheon Subway Line 2, Exit 3. Not walkable: take bus 43 from the stop across the road (no. 42851), then walk up to about 17 minutes, or take a taxi

Festival shuttle

No festival shuttle bus was published for 2024, 2025 or 2026 on the pages opened; the organizer's and city's notices give no public-transport directions.

Getting home

Last entry is 17:00 and the grounds close at 18:00, so there is time to spare. The last bus 43 back to Geomam and the last AREX train from Geomam towards Seoul on the festival dates were not verified; check them in Kakao Map or at Geomam Station before you go.

Parking

Free. A family guide lists car parks 1, 2 and 3 and the Dream Park Sports Center lot. They get busy at weekends during the festival, so arrive early; most visitors came by car in the organizer's 2014 survey.

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English

Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.

Before you go

1330 · Travel hotline

The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.

112 / 119 · Emergencies

112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.

T-money card

Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.

Maps

Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.

Trains and buses

Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

Places you can fit in before or after the festival without missing the shuttle or the last train or bus back.

  • A canal-side park on the Gyeongin Ara Waterway, the canal linking the Han River with the Incheon coast, behind Geomam Station: walk the banks (cycle paths on both sides, bike rental near Sicheon Park) and see the nearby bridges lit after dark. It fits the way home: last entry at the festival is 17:00 and the grounds close at 18:00, the canal parks are open at all hours and free, and AREX leaves from the same station. Tip: use Exit 1 for the canal; the bus 43 stop is across the road from Exit 3.
