What it is like
DDP 365 Light is Seoul's way of giving Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), Zaha Hadid's curved landmark, something to watch after dark on ordinary nights, not only during the Seoul Light DDP festival weeks. Run by the Seoul Design Foundation, it is a short outdoor show that links lasers, lighting, video and sound around the exhibition of excavated remains (유구전시장) on Eoullim Plaza, the open square in front of the building. It began in September 2026, straight after the autumn run of Seoul Light DDP, as part of the city's plan to build up Seoul's night-time economy around landmarks such as DDP.
Each show lasts about five minutes and starts on the hour and on the half-hour. The first show of the evening moves with the seasons: 18:00 from November to February, 19:00 in March–April and September–October, and 20:00 from May to August; the last show starts at 22:00. The opening work is laser artist Yoon Je-ho's 'Future Light, Passing Through the Echo of Time' (미래의 빛, 시간의 울림을 통과하다), which sets out to turn the traces kept in the remains exhibition into present-day light and sound. It had its debut during Seoul Light DDP 2026 Autumn (3–13 September), in a version that combined lasers with traditional percussion, electronic music, AI-generated video and lighting, and on opening night added traditional performers and dancers. The city said the content would be upgraded in October 2026.
The idea was tried out a year earlier. From 20 to 30 November 2025 a pilot billed as 'DDP 365 Light: Dream in Light' ran on the hour from 18:00 to 22:00 on the façade, above the Mirae-ro walkway and in front of the remains exhibition. Its four works included one that turned Seoul's live weather into colour patterns on the building, with lasers of the city mascot Haechi. That pilot paused in December for the Seoul Light DDP winter run.
There is nothing to book and no ticket: the show plays in the open on the plaza. Because one show is so short, it works best as a stop on an evening in Dongdaemun rather than a trip in itself.
The caveats: the Seoul Design Foundation describes the 2026 operation as a trial, to be expanded step by step, and says times and shows may change; no rain policy has been published; and it is not yet known whether the show carries on while Seoul Light DDP takes over the site from 17 December 2026. It is also far smaller than Seoul Light DDP, whose media art covers the whole 222 m façade.
Highlights
- A show of about 5 minutes every 30 minutes, on the hour and the half-hour, every evening until the last show at 22:00
- First show at 18:00 in November–February, 19:00 in March–April and September–October, and 20:00 in May–August
- Lasers, lighting, video and sound linked together around the exhibition of excavated remains (유구전시장) on Eoullim Plaza
- Opening work: Yoon Je-ho's laser piece 'Future Light, Passing Through the Echo of Time', first shown at Seoul Light DDP 2026 Autumn
- No ticket or booking, and Exit 1 of Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station comes out on Eoullim Plaza
- The everyday companion to Seoul Light DDP, the seasonal media-art festival on DDP's 222 m façade (winter run from 17 December 2026)
Who it suits. Good for anyone spending an evening around Dongdaemun, for shopping or dinner, who wants a free five-minute light show to fit in between other plans, and for photographers after DDP lit up at night. Not worth a special trip on its own: each show is short and much smaller than the Seoul Light DDP festival in early September and the second half of December.

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English
Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.
Before you go
1330 · Travel hotline
The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.
112 / 119 · Emergencies
112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.
T-money card
Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.
Maps
Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.
Trains and buses
Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

How long does each show last?
About 5 minutes. A new show starts every half-hour, so if you just miss one, the next is never far off.
Is DDP 365 Light free?
Yes, in practice: it plays outdoors on DDP's open Eoullim Plaza with no ticket or booking, and the city's notice lists no fee. Its first work had its debut during the free Seoul Light DDP 2026 Autumn festival.
Where should I stand to watch it?
On Eoullim Plaza, beside the exhibition of excavated remains (유구전시장), below the Mirae-ro walkway. Exit 1 of Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station comes out on the plaza. The organizer does not mark a viewing area, so arrive a few minutes early for a clear view.
How is it different from Seoul Light DDP?
Seoul Light DDP is a seasonal festival of media art projected onto DDP's whole 222 m façade, held in early September (3–13 September in 2026) and from 17 December 2026 to the New Year's Eve countdown. DDP 365 Light is a much shorter laser, light and sound show near the remains exhibition that runs every night of the year in between.
Does it run every night, including in December?
The city describes it as nightly, with no closed day announced. Whether it keeps running during Seoul Light DDP's winter run, from 17 December 2026, has not been announced; the November 2025 pilot paused in December for the festival.
What is the show about?
The first work, by laser artist Yoon Je-ho, is called 'Future Light, Passing Through the Echo of Time'. It sets out to turn the traces kept in the remains exhibition into light and sound of today, using lasers, lighting, video and sound. The city planned a content upgrade for October 2026.
How do I get there?
Take Line 2, 4 or 5 to Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station and leave by Exit 1, which comes out on DDP's Eoullim Plaza. From Seoul Station or the AREX from Incheon Airport, change to Line 4 towards Jinjeop.

What we could not confirm
- The nightly schedule comes from one city source (Seoul Mediahub, 28 Sep 2026); no schedule page on ddp.or.kr was found or opened, and no exact September 2026 start day was published (the first work debuted in the 3–13 September festival).
- The city's table gives one last-show time (22:00); confirm that it applies in every season, not only November–February.
- No source states the fee in so many words; the show plays outdoors on the open plaza, and its debut during Seoul Light DDP 2026 Autumn was free.
- Whether DDP 365 Light keeps running during Seoul Light DDP 2026 Winter (from 17 December) and on the 31 December countdown night; the 2025 pilot paused in December.
- Rain, snow, wind and cold-weather rules, and any closures for other DDP events, are not published.
- Whether the October 2026 content upgrade went ahead, and what the current work is.
- The 2026 operation is described as a trial (시범운영) to be expanded in stages; recheck in early 2027 that it is still running nightly.
- Japanese and Chinese names were not found on a KTO or official page; there is no KTO TourAPI listing for DDP 365 Light in the site's snapshot.
- The Line 4 connection from Seoul Station (for AREX and KTX arrivals) is from the subway map, as in the Seoul Light DDP record; wheelchair access and the exact viewing spot were not checked.
