What it is like
Yeoju lies on the Namhan (South Han) River at the far end of the Gyeonggang Line, south-east of Seoul, and is known for its rice and sweet potatoes. In the Joseon era the county's produce was sent to the king as tribute by boat from the Jopo ferry landing, and the Ogok Naru ("five grains ferry") Festival turns that story into a three-day harvest fair in the Silleuksa temple resort on the riverbank. It grew out of the Yeoju Rice and Sweet Potato Festival and has carried its present name since about 2013, when that year's edition was billed as the 15th. It was a national Culture and Tourism Festival for 2020–2023, a provisional one for 2024–2025, and in 2025 one of Gyeonggi-do's 19 representative tourism festivals.
The grounds are split into three yards. Ogok Madang has the farmers' market, a Yeoju rice exhibition, Joseon-era games and straw crafts; Naru Madang, on the river, has the sweet-potato event, skewer barbecues, stage shows, a tavern and the wish-paper path, where visitors tie written wishes along the suspension bridge; Janchi Madang serves cauldron-cooked bibimbap, rice cakes pounded on the spot and home-brewed liquor. The set pieces are a royal tribute parade, the Heunam-ri twin-dragon tug-of-war, a village rope game, bibimbap mixed in 15–16 giant cauldrons in 2025, and roasted sweet potatoes handed out free from a giant wood-fired roaster, 60 m long in 2025. Hwangpo sailboats, Yeoju's traditional yellow-sailed river boats, also take passengers.
New in 2026 are Naru Nanjang, a riverside area with taverns and wooden platforms for visitors in hanbok by day that turns into a music party at night, and Yeogang Gwidam, a mission game based on Namhan River folk tales. Each evening has its own show on the river: a tug-of-war and fireworks performance on Friday 23 October, Yeoju Bondu-ri nakhwa nori (paper-wrapped fire bundles hung on lines over the water that drop sparks like falling petals) with tightrope walking on Saturday 24 October, and a multimedia show with closing fireworks on Sunday 25 October.
The caveats: the organizers counted about 270,000 visitors in 2023 and 400,000 in 2025, so weekend afternoons and the night shows are crowded; detailed programme times were not published in the sources we could read; and the site is about 25 minutes by bus from Yeoju Station, with few regular buses, so check for a festival shuttle or budget for a taxi. Late-October evenings by the river are cold. Next door, Yeoju Dojasesang hosts the Gyeonggi Ceramics Biennale's Yeoju exhibition until 1 November 2026.
Highlights
- Free entry, 10:00–21:00 on Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October 2026, in the Silleuksa temple resort on the Namhan River

- Bibimbap made with Yeoju rice cooked in giant cauldrons (₩3,000–4,000 in 2023) and free roasted sweet potatoes from a wood-fired roaster 60 m long in 2025
- Royal tribute parade and the Heunam-ri twin-dragon tug-of-war, recalling the Joseon-era tribute shipments from the Jopo ferry
- New in 2026: Naru Nanjang, taverns and wooden platforms by day and a music party by night, with guests including Roo'Ra (23 Oct) and Pengsoo with Kim Sung-soo of Cool (24 Oct)
- New in 2026: Yeogang Gwidam: Joseon Night, a mission game built on Namhan River folk legends
- Farmers' market for Yeoju rice, sweet potatoes and other produce, Hwangpo sailboat rides and a wish-paper path on the river's suspension bridge
Who it suits. Best for families, food lovers and anyone who wants a rural harvest fair within reach of Seoul by metro, with an evening fire show over the river as a bonus; less suited to travellers who need English signage or a precise timetable, because programme times were not published in the sources we could read and the site is a bus or taxi ride from Yeoju Station.
Getting there
From Seoul
Shinbundang Line from Gangnam to Pangyo (about 14 minutes), then the Gyeonggang Line to its terminus, Yeoju Station (about 48 minutes from Pangyo). Of the 62 weekday trains, 16 turn back at Bubal and do not reach Yeoju, so board one signed for Yeoju. From Yeoju Station, local buses to the Silleuksa stop take about 25 minutes but run only a few times a day, so a taxi is quicker; festival shuttles ran from the station in 2024 and 2025 (2026 details not published). Intercity buses from Seoul also serve Yeoju Bus Terminal, about 8 minutes by bus from Silleuksa. By car, the neighbouring ceramics complex is about 12 minutes from Yeoju IC or Seo-Yeoju IC.
From Busan
KTX from Busan Station to Seoul Station (about 2 h 30 m; ₩54,400 in standard class since the 1 September 2026 KTX–SRT merger), then as from Seoul via Gangnam, Pangyo and the Gyeonggang Line to Yeoju.
From Incheon Airport
AREX to Seoul Station, subway to Gangnam, the Shinbundang Line to Pangyo and the Gyeonggang Line to Yeoju Station, then a bus, taxi or festival shuttle to Silleuksa.
Last leg from Yeoju Station
Gyeonggang Line (metro from Pangyo, terminus). About an hour on foot; local bus about 25 minutes to the Silleuksa stop (few departures), or taxi; festival shuttles ran from the station in 2024 and 2025
Festival shuttle
In 2024 shuttles ran between Yeoju Station and the festival site; in 2025 shuttle and tourist circulation buses linked Yeoju Station, the site and the downtown shopping area, with wheelchair-lift buses. No 2026 shuttle timetable was found in the sources checked as of 22 October 2026.
Getting home
The festival closes at 21:00 (Friday to Sunday). Gyeonggang Line trains toward Pangyo run until late in the evening, after the festival closes, but the last departure from Yeoju on 23–25 October was not confirmed, and some trains start at Bubal instead of Yeoju: check the last train in the Korail app (코레일톡) or at Yeoju Station before you go. The weak link is the 25-minute ride from Silleuksa back to Yeoju Station, where regular buses are scarce at night: use the festival shuttle if one runs, or a taxi.
Parking
Festival car parks for 2026 were not published. KTO lists free parking at Yeoju Dojasesang, 161 m from the festival site, and at the Gyeonggi Living Ceramics Museum next to it, about 12 minutes by car from Yeoju IC or Seo-Yeoju IC. In 2025 the festival app 'Chukjipsa' gave live parking guidance.
How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English
Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.
Before you go
1330 · Travel hotline
The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.
112 / 119 · Emergencies
112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.
T-money card
Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.
Maps
Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.
Trains and buses
Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

What we could not confirm
- 2026 shuttle routes and times from Yeoju Station (shuttles ran in 2024 and 2025); the official site ogoknaru.yjfestival.or.kr could not be fetched, and neither the KTO listing (modified 13 Oct 2026) nor the ministry listing gave shuttle details when rechecked on 19 Oct 2026, and the ministry listing still had none on 22 Oct 2026
- Start times for the 2026 parade, tug-of-war, bibimbap servings and the nightly river shows; on 19 Oct 2026 KTO and the ministry still gave only 10:00–21:00 and ‘after sunset’. An undated WAUG/GetYourGuide private day-tour listing puts the nakhwa show at 19:00 for about 20 minutes; not confirmed by the organizer
- 2026 price of the cauldron bibimbap (₩3,000–4,000 in 2023) and fees for the Hwangpo sailboat ride and other paid experiences
- First year held and 2026 edition number: a 2013 column calls that year's festival the 15th and says it was renamed from the Yeoju rice and sweet potato festival, which points to about 1999, but no source states the first year
- Last Gyeonggang Line departure from Yeoju toward Pangyo on 23–25 October: the Icheon last-train times from the 23 March 2026 timetable were removed from the page on 22 Oct 2026 because Yeoju's own last departure could not be confirmed for the festival dates; also Seoul–Yeoju intercity bus terminals, times and fares
- Festival car parks and fees for 2026, rain policy, pet rules and foreign card acceptance were not published
- Organizer name: KTO gives 여주세종문화관광재단 (Yeoju Sejong Culture & Tourism Foundation), while the ministry listing's contact line reads 여주세종문화재단
- Bus route numbers serving the Silleuksa stop from Yeoju Station are from an undated Gyeonggi Province magazine page; current routes and frequencies need checking
- The guest act for 25 October in Naru Nanjang was not confirmed
