What it is like

Seoul Petlympic (서울 펫림픽) is the city's dog-sports festival for ordinary residents and their dogs, organised by the Animal Protection Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Government and run by the Korean Agility Federation. It began on 20–21 September 2025 as Seoul's first dog sports competition, on the same Peace Plaza beside the World Cup stadium, with agility in five grades, a canicross run of about 4.1 km with the marathoner Lee Bong-ju and a six-event "dog Olympics". The 2026 edition, the second, takes the Petlympic name and runs on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, 10:00–17:00.

The core is four beginner events for dogs with basic training: Stay Classic (the dog waits in place), Recall Sprint (it comes when called), Slalom (it weaves through cones) and Team Sprint, a 15 m dash with dog and owner side by side, in two weight classes with up to 100 places per event. Alongside them, the Dog Trail is a walk of about 4 km through Peace Park with your dog. Experienced handlers, including national-team-level athletes, take part in agility and frisbee, and there are dog dance and flyball demonstrations to watch. Around the plaza are rest lounges for dogs, a dog toilet zone and water stations, booths for face painting, keyring making, vet health consultations and pet CPR and first aid, pet-culture and industry booths, and on-site vets and paramedics.

Visiting costs nothing: entry is free, and the demonstrations, stage programmes and booths do not need a dog. Entering the four events or the Dog Trail costs ₩40,000 and took first-come, first-served registration on the official site from 14 September 2026; whether places remain was not published. Before the festival the city also ran special Seoul City Tour Bus trips for dogs and their owners, from 29 September to 22 October. Information is in Korean, although the event names are given in English. The plaza is a short walk from World Cup Stadium Station on Line 6, and Haneul Park, whose silver grass festival ends the day before, is within walking distance.

Highlights

  • Free entry, 10:00–17:00 on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October 2026, on Peace Plaza in World Cup Park, Mapo-gu
  • Four beginner events for dogs with basic training: Stay Classic, Recall Sprint, a cone Slalom and a 15 m Team Sprint with the owner, in two weight classes
  • Dog Trail: a walk of about 4 km through Peace Park with your dog (₩40,000, 400 places)
  • Agility and frisbee by experienced handlers, including national-team-level athletes, plus dog dance and flyball demonstrations
  • Booths for face painting, keyring making, vet health consultations and pet CPR and first aid; dog lounges, a dog toilet zone and water stations
  • On-site vets and paramedic teams; a charity run before the festival raises money for pet care in low-income Seoul households

Who it suits. Best for dog owners living in Seoul or travelling with a dog who want a gentle first try at dog sports, and for dog lovers without a pet who would enjoy watching agility, frisbee and flyball for free; less suited to anyone uneasy around crowds of dogs, and information is in Korean.

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English

Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.

Before you go

1330 · Travel hotline

The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.

112 / 119 · Emergencies

112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.

T-money card

Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.

Maps

Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.

Trains and buses

Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.
