The Gumi Ramyeon Festival (구미라면축제) is a free three-day street-food festival around Gumi Station in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do, the city where Nongshim fries most of Korea's Shin Ramyun. Local chefs serve creative ramyeon dishes along a 475 m 'ramyeon street' opposite the station, and Nongshim sells packs fried that morning. The 5th edition runs Friday 6 to Sunday 8 November 2026, 10:00–21:00 per the ministry's listing; entry is free and you pay per dish (2026 dish prices had not been published by 28 October). Direct ITX trains from Seoul Station reach Gumi Station, right at the festival gate, in about 3 hours (₩26,700).

Not yet confirmed for the 2026 edition: opening hours or show times, how to book, shuttle buses, road closures or parking. Check the organizer's page before you go.

What it is like

Gumi, an industrial-complex city on the Nakdong River, is where Nongshim makes most of Korea's best-selling instant noodle: its Gumi plant, opened in 1990, produces about 6 million packs a day. Since 2022 the city has built a festival on that fact. The first edition was a two-day ramyeon camping event at a riverside campsite in August 2022; from the second edition it has been a November street festival, and since at least 2024 it has filled the old downtown in front of Gumi Station. Attendance has climbed quickly: roughly 90,000–100,000 in 2023, about 170,000 in 2024 and about 350,000 in 2025.

The centrepiece is billed as the world's longest ramyeon restaurant: a 475 m stretch of road opposite the station lined with booths. Local chefs, chosen through document screening and a cooking test, each sell a signature dish built on Nongshim noodles, such as ramyeon burritos, eel-soup noodles or smoked pork-belly cream ramyeon. In 2025 no dish could cost more than ₩9,000, half portions let you try several, and you ordered by QR code or kiosk and ate in themed seating zones in the side alleys. The other long queue is for packs fried at the plant the same morning, sold in bundles alongside festival-only editions (120,000 packs of a KPop Demon Hunters Shin Ramyun in 2025). Around these are a make-your-own ramyeon workshop, slurping and eating contests, a cooking contest for foreign participants, stage shows, and side events in the Geumri-dan-gil café alleys, along Munhwa-ro and in Saemaeul Central Market.

The 2026 edition, the fifth, runs 6–8 November under the theme 'The Premium', with 33 ramyeon restaurants (25 in 2025), a Global Ramyeon Challenge, a robot chef, and invited foreign chefs and K-food influencers. The ministry's listing gives 10:00–21:00; KTO's English listing, which still carries 2025 details, gives 10:00–22:00.

The honest caveats: this is a packed street festival, not a relaxed meal. More than 90,000 people came on the first day in 2025, and in 2024 the restaurant area let in 100 people at a time, with some waiting 30 minutes or more. No English programme information was found, and November evenings outdoors are cold. On the plus side, the site starts at the station exit, so it works as a day trip from Seoul by direct train.

Highlights

  • A 475 m 'ramyeon street' opposite Gumi Station, billed as the world's longest ramyeon restaurant, with chef-made dishes capped at ₩9,000 in 2025
  • Packs fried the same morning at Nongshim's Gumi plant, which makes about 6 million packs a day; about 480,000 packs were sold at the 2025 festival
  • 33 ramyeon restaurants in 2026 (25 in 2025), chosen by document screening and an on-site cooking test
  • Half portions and QR-code ordering, introduced in 2025 so you can try several dishes and queue less
  • Make-your-own ramyeon workshop, slurping and eating contests, and a cooking contest for foreign participants (the Global Ramyeon Challenge in 2026)
  • Side events in the Geumri-dan-gil café alleys, along Munhwa-ro and in Saemaeul Central Market, all within walking distance of the station

Who it suits. Best for food-focused travelers, families and anyone curious about Korean instant noodles who does not mind street-food queues; easy as a day trip, because the festival starts at the station exit. Less suited to people who dislike crowds, need English-language programmes, or want a quiet sit-down meal.

Getting there

From Seoul

Direct trains run from Seoul Station to Gumi Station, which is at the festival gate. ITX-Saemaeul and ITX-Maeum take about 3 hours (2 h 51 m–3 h 23 m, ₩26,700 standard class) and Mugunghwa 3 h 12 m–3 h 45 m (₩17,900); about 20 trains a day in all. Faster but with a change: KTX from Seoul Station to Gimcheon(Gumi) Station, about 1 h 30 m (₩31,900, 22–25 trains a day), then a Gumi-bound city bus or a taxi to Gumi Station. For 2026 the city also arranged Kakao T shuttle buses from Seoul Station, Jamsil and Sadang (₩59,000 return), each running only if enough seats sell.

From Busan

Gumi Station is on the Gyeongbu Line between Busan and Seoul; check Korail for direct ITX and Mugunghwa services (times were not checked for this record). The Daegyeong Line commuter railway also links Gumi Station with Daegu. For 2026, Kakao T shuttles from Busan (₩45,000 return) and Daegu (₩25,000 return) were planned, subject to demand.

Last leg from Gumi Station

Korail Gyeongbu Line (ITX-Saemaeul, ITX-Maeum, Mugunghwa) and Daegyeong Line. None needed: the festival gate is just outside the station, and the ramyeon street runs along the road opposite it

Festival shuttle

2026: Kakao T shuttle buses on 7 routes, from Seoul Station, Jamsil and Sadang in the capital region and from Daegu, Busan, Daejeon and Gwangju, for a round trip to the festival. Return fares are ₩59,000 from Seoul, ₩45,000 from Busan and ₩25,000 from Daegu; each route runs only if demand is enough, and times, pick-up points and booking steps were not in the announcement read. No 2026 notice of local shuttles from car parks had been found by 28 October.

Getting home

The festival is at the station, so you can stay until close (21:00 in the ministry's 2026 listing). The last trains back to Seoul on the festival dates were not verified: Korail's timetable changes on 1 November 2026. Check the last ITX or Mugunghwa from Gumi Station, or the last KTX from Gimcheon(Gumi) Station (a bus or taxi ride away), in the Korail app (코레일+ / Korail+) before the festival day, and book the return in advance.

Parking

No 2026 parking notice had been found by 28 October. The festival is at Gumi Station, so come by train if you can.

How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English

Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.

Before you go

1330 · Travel hotline

The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.

112 / 119 · Emergencies

112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.

T-money card

Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.

Maps

Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.

Trains and buses

Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

YearDatesStatusNotes
2027 A Friday-to-Sunday weekend in November 2027 is likely: the festival has run over three days in November every year since 2023 (17–19 Nov 2023, 1–3 Nov 2024, 7–9 Nov 2025, 6–8 Nov 2026), and the ministry has named it a 2026–2027 preliminary cultural tourism festival. No 2027 dates had been announced as of 18 October 2026. expected The 2026 dates were public by mid-July 2026, so expect 2027 dates by summer 2027.
2026 6–8 Nov 2026 confirmed Around Gumi Station and Yeokjeon-ro in the old downtown; the ramyeon street is on the road opposite the station.
2025 7–9 Nov 2025 ended Ramyeon Street 475 on the road opposite Gumi Station; eating zones in the side alleys; children's zone on the rear plaza.
2024 1–3 Nov 2024 ended Free shuttle buses ran to the site from the Geumosan car park and Gumi Complex Sports Center.
2023 17–19 Nov 2023 ended 2nd edition. Visitor estimates differ: about 100,000 (Korea JoongAng Daily, 2024), about 90,000 (2025 reports) and about 80,000 (Kyungbuk Maeil, 2026). The venue was not confirmed on the pages opened.
2022 27–28 Aug 2022 ended Gumi campsite in Nakdonggang Sports Park (낙동강체육공원 구미캠핑장), not downtown.

Before or after the festival

Places you can fit in before or after the festival without missing the shuttle or the last train or bus back.

  • Geumosan Provincial Park (금오산도립공원)Before

Gumi's mountain park, where an 805 m cable car climbs to Haeunsa temple and a short walk leads on to Daehye Falls, a 28 m drop; a 2.4 km path circles the reservoir at the park entrance. Go in the morning and be back at the station by early afternoon: the cable car runs every 15 minutes from 09:00 until 17:15 from November (adult ₩12,000 return), and the temple and falls are free. If the cable-car queue is long, walk the reservoir loop instead (about 40 minutes, always open).

Getting there: Bus 27 from the Nonghyup stop near Gumi Station to the Gumi Neo-Confucian History Museum stop at the park entrance, or a taxi, about 10 min

  • Getting awayAfter

The festival is at Gumi Station, so getting away means the train, and the station is busy on festival days: in 2025 about 34,000 Daegyeong Line passengers used it over the festival. Book your return ITX or Mugunghwa before you come and check the last train in the Korail+ app (코레일+); if the direct trains are full, KTX from Gimcheon(Gumi) Station is a bus or taxi ride away.
