What it is like
Cheongsong is a small, mountainous county in Gyeongsangbuk-do, and its apples are its best-known product: they have won the apple category of the Korea Representative Brand Awards 13 years in a row as of 2025. The apple festival, first held in 2004, is the county's flagship event, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has named it one of 27 culture and tourism festivals for 2026–2027, a title it also held for 2020–2023. It is set on the banks of the Yongjeoncheon stream in the county town, Cheongsong-eup, facing Hyeonbiam, a cliff about 20 m high, and next to the town's five-day market.
The programme mixes a farm market with a county fair. Growers sell apples on site: in 2025 prices were 10–15% below normal, parcel delivery was free, and 2,600 boxes had sold by 16:00 on opening day. Residents march in the Cheongsong Apple Parade, teams from across the country compete in the apple-blossom garland contest (17 in 2025), an Apple King contest picks the best fruit, and the Apple Promotion Hall, 690 m² in 2025, shows prize-winning apples and a smart-orchard display. The hands-on games have playful names: 'Find the Golden Apple', the apple-grading 'lotto' and 'apple nanta' drumming. New for 2026 are seven apple dishes developed with four local businesses, among them apple tonkatsu, apple tteokbokki and apple Chungmu gimbap, served at the 'Cheongsong Apple Table' in the promotion hall. The Cheongsong Culture Festival and the World Confucian Culture Festival run alongside, KTO lists fireworks among the side events, and in 2024 and 2025 trot concerts took the stage every evening from 18:00.
The 20th edition runs 4–8 November 2026, Wednesday to Sunday, 09:00–20:00 per KTO's Korean listing, under the theme 'Cheongsong now! Coloured by apples'. Entry is free and only some hands-on programmes charge. An online version on the Daum portal (24 September–8 November) had logged 2.24 million visits by 15 October. The 2025 edition, held after the March 2025 wildfires burned hills around the county, drew about 500,000 on-site visitors by the county's count, and a university review of the 2024 edition put average spending at ₩126,000 per visitor.
The honest caveats: Cheongsong has no railway, and only three direct buses a day run between the town and Dong Seoul, the last leaving Cheongsong in the early evening, around the time the concerts begin, so plan to stay overnight if you want the evening programme. Stage shows and contests are in Korean, and the 2026 daily schedule, performers, parking and paid-programme prices had not been published on the pages we read. The reward is a thoroughly local harvest fair in a riverside county town.
Highlights
- Growers' apple stalls with tastings; in 2025 apples sold 10–15% below normal prices with free parcel delivery
- Cheongsong Apple Parade and the national apple-blossom garland weaving contest (17 teams in 2025, 8 from Cheongsong and 9 from elsewhere)
- Hands-on games: 'Find the Golden Apple', the apple-grading 'lotto' and 'apple nanta' drumming, plus an Apple King contest and a surprise apple auction
- Apple Promotion Hall (690 m² in 2025) with prize-winning apples, and in 2026 seven new apple dishes at its 'Cheongsong Apple Table', from apple tonkatsu to apple Chungmu gimbap
- Evening trot concerts from 18:00 (2024 and 2025), with the Cheongsong Culture Festival, the World Confucian Culture Festival and fireworks as side events
- Riverside grounds facing Hyeonbiam, a cliff about 20 m high, next to Cheongsong's five-day market (market days end in 4 and 9, so 4 November, the opening day, is one)
Who it suits. Best for fruit lovers, families and travelers combining an autumn trip to Cheongsong or Juwangsan with a rural harvest fair; less suited to day-trippers from Seoul who want the evening concerts (the last direct bus back leaves in the early evening) or to anyone who needs English-language programmes.
Getting there
From Seoul
Bus: three intercity buses a day run from Dong Seoul Terminal to Cheongsong Intercity Bus Terminal, calling at Andong; the scheduled time in the other direction is 3 h 58 m (₩37,900 premium class). The terminal is in Cheongsong-eup, the town where the festival is held. Train and bus: KTX-Eum from Cheongnyangni to Andong (about 13 a day, about 1 h 52 m–2 h 05 m, ₩27,700), then from Andong Terminal beside the station one of three direct buses to Cheongsong (1 h 27 m, ₩11,200), or one of about 15 buses to Jinbo (1 h 11 m, ₩7,000–8,400) and a local bus on to Cheongsong (16 minutes). Or KTX from Seoul Station to Dongdaegu (₩39,000) and a bus from Dong-Daegu Terminal (about 7 a day, 2 h 19 m, ₩19,500). Bus times for 4–8 November and trains under Korail's timetable from 1 November 2026 were not verified: check at the terminal and in the Korail+ app (코레일+) before you go.
From Busan
Two buses a day run from Cheongsong to Busan Central Bus Terminal (Nopo) (2 h 37 m, ₩24,500); departure times in either direction were not verified for the festival dates, so check at the terminal. Otherwise take a KTX to Dongdaegu and the Dong-Daegu–Cheongsong bus (2 h 19 m).
Last leg from Cheongsong Intercity Bus Terminal (Cheongsong has no railway station; the nearest KTX-Eum stop is Andong)
Intercity buses to and from Dong Seoul (via Andong), Dong-Daegu, Busan and Jinbo. In Cheongsong-eup, the same town as the festival grounds; the walking time to the Yongjeoncheon site is not published
Festival shuttle
No festival shuttle was documented for 2024–2026.
Getting home
No trains serve Cheongsong. The last buses from Cheongsong and the last trains onward on 4–8 November (under the bus operators' timetables and Korail's timetable from 1 November 2026) were not verified, so no times are given here. The direct bus to Dong Seoul takes about 4 hours (3 h 58 m); other ways back are the bus to Dong-Daegu (2 h 09 m) for a KTX, or the bus to Andong Terminal (1 h 20 m) for a KTX-Eum. The evening concerts started at 18:00 in 2024 and 2025 (2026 times not published), so a same-day return to Seoul may mean missing them. Check the last bus at Cheongsong Intercity Bus Terminal and the last train in the Korail+ app (코레일+) before you go, or stay overnight in Cheongsong.
Parking
In 2024 the county ran six car parks in Cheongsong-eup: 481-3 Wolmak-ri, 291-7 Deok-ri, 69 Guncheong-ro (weekends only), 13 Geumgok 1-gil (weekends only), 77 Bokjitaun-gil and 306-39 Jungang-ro; capacities and fees were not published. 2026 car parks had not been announced on the pages read.
How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English
Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.
Before you go
1330 · Travel hotline
The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.
112 / 119 · Emergencies
112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.
T-money card
Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.
Maps
Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.
Trains and buses
Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

Before or after the festival
Places you can fit in before or after the festival without missing the shuttle or the last train or bus back.
- Cheongsong Market (청송장)Before
Cheongsong-eup's traditional market, a regular market since the 1920s, where growers sell the county's apples, red pepper, doenjang and mountain greens along 200–300 m of street beside the intercity bus terminal. The five-day market falls on dates ending in 4 and 9, so 4 November, the festival's opening day, is the one to catch; stall hours vary. Walk through it as you get off the bus, before heading to the stream.
Getting there: Beside Cheongsong Intercity Bus Terminal, about 150 m from the festival grounds; on foot
- Sohun Park (Changyeongnu and Unbonggwan) (소헌공원)Before or after
A small town-centre park named after Queen Soheon, King Sejong's wife, who came from the Cheongsong Sim clan: it holds Changyeongnu, a two-storey pavilion built in 1428 in her family's honour and rebuilt in 1688, and Unbonggwan, the long former government guesthouse beside it. It is open at all hours, so it fits a quiet break between the stalls and the evening programme. From the pavilion you look across the Yongjeoncheon towards Bogwangsan, where the clan founder's tomb is.
Getting there: About 360 m from KTO's festival point through Cheongsong-eup; on foot, about 5 minutes
- Getting awayAfter
Cheongsong has no railway, and every way out is a bus from the one terminal in town, with only a few direct buses a day to Dong Seoul and Andong and a handful to Dong-Daegu. Check the last departure when you arrive and buy your return seat then, so you know when to leave the stream; to stay for the evening concerts, book a room in Cheongsong instead.
Questions travelers ask
When is the Cheongsong Apple Festival 2026?
4–8 November 2026 (Wednesday to Sunday), 09:00–20:00 per KTO's Korean listing, along the Yongjeoncheon stream by Hyeonbiam in Cheongsong-eup, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is the 20th edition, themed 'Cheongsong now! Coloured by apples'.
Is the Cheongsong Apple Festival free?
Entry is free; some hands-on programmes charge, but prices were not published. In 2025 growers sold apples 10–15% below usual prices, with free parcel delivery.
How do I get to Cheongsong from Seoul?
Three direct buses a day leave Dong Seoul Terminal for Cheongsong, calling at Andong; the scheduled time back is 3 h 58 m and the fare ₩37,900. Or take the KTX-Eum from Cheongnyangni to Andong (about 1 h 52 m–2 h 05 m) and a bus from Andong Terminal (1 h 27 m direct, or via Jinbo). Check bus times at the terminal before you travel.
Can I visit as a day trip from Seoul?
Only just, if at all. The direct bus takes almost 4 hours each way, and the evening concerts (from 18:00 in 2024 and 2025) are probably out of reach on a day trip. Bus times for the festival dates were not verified, so check the last bus at Cheongsong terminal and the last train in the Korail+ app (코레일+) before you go, or stay overnight in Cheongsong.
What can I do at the festival?
Taste and buy Cheongsong apples, watch the apple parade and the apple-blossom garland contest, try games such as 'Find the Golden Apple' and the apple-grading lotto, see the Apple Promotion Hall, and eat new apple dishes such as apple tonkatsu and apple tteokbokki.
When is the Cheongsong Apple Festival 2027?
Not announced as of 19 October 2026. Recent editions ran Wednesday to Sunday at the turn of October and November (30 Oct–3 Nov 2024, 29 Oct–2 Nov 2025, 4–8 Nov 2026), so expect late October or early November 2027.
What is near the festival grounds?
Cheongsong's traditional market lines the street beside the intercity bus terminal, about 150 m from the festival, and its five-day market falls on dates ending in 4 and 9, so on 4 November, the opening day. Sohun Park, with the Changyeongnu pavilion (built 1428) and the Unbonggwan guesthouse, is about 360 m away on foot. Juwangsan National Park is further out and needs a half-day of its own.

What we could not confirm
- The official site csapplefestival.kr was not opened (no search returned it); the 2026 daily schedule, performers, opening-ceremony time and fireworks night were not found.
- Hours conflict: KTO's Korean listing (and the English page) say 09:00–20:00, while its Japanese and Traditional Chinese pages say 10:00–21:00; those pages note they still carry 2025 details.
- Prices of the paid hands-on programmes and 2026 apple prices were not published.
- 2026 car parks, any shuttle and road closures were not announced on the pages read; the car-park list is from 2024.
- The walking time from Cheongsong Intercity Bus Terminal to the festival grounds was not verified; the terminal address was not shown.
- Bus times come from a third-party mirror of the national timetable feed (October 2026). Dong Seoul → Cheongsong was seen only as a summary (3 a day, 08:40–15:30) without duration or fare; Busan → Cheongsong and Jinbo → Cheongsong times were not checked. A new KTX timetable starts on 1 Nov 2026.
- Edition numbering: the festival was first held in 2004 but 2026 is only the 20th edition; which years were skipped was not found.
- Japanese and Chinese names come from KTO foreign-language data seen through a mirror (ktriptips), not on KTO's own foreign-language pages.
- KTO's tourist-spot point for Hyeonbiam (Geumgok-ri) and the festival pin (484-1 Wolmak-ri) are about 2 km apart by their coordinates; the exact extent of the grounds was not confirmed.
- Restrooms for 2026, accessibility, rain policy, pets and foreign-card acceptance were not published.
- Last bus from Cheongsong (to Dong Seoul, Dong-Daegu, Andong and Busan) and the last train onward on the festival dates, under the bus timetables and the Korail timetable in force in November 2026.
- No 2026 traffic, parking or shuttle notice found on 28 Oct 2026: press reports of 18–19 Oct say the county was checking parking and traffic measures but give no details. Bus operators' timetables for 4–8 Nov were not opened (only a third-party mirror), so no bus or train clock times are given.
- Admission (if any) to Sohun Park's Changyeongnu and Unbonggwan, and whether the buildings can be entered; KTO lists the park as open at all times.
