Notes on the 2026 edition
Theme 'Jeju! Running with hope'. The oreum was not burned; the digital fire replaced it. On the opening night sparks from the daljip prompted an emergency meeting, and only one small daljip of the nine planned was burned that day. Organizers projected up to 70,000 visitors a day and 120,000+ over the two main days; Jeju Province later reported about 160,000 visitors, 76.1% of them Jeju residents.
About the festival
The Jeju Fire Festival (제주들불축제) is Jeju City's March festival at Saebyeol Oreum, a 519 m grassy volcanic cone in Aewol-eup, rooted in the island's old custom of burning off dead pasture. The famous burning of the whole hillside was abolished in 2023; in 2026 the slope was lit instead by a laser, fireworks and media-art 'digital fire', alongside torch parades and a bonfire. The 2026 edition ran 9–14 March with free entry; 2027 is expected in March, but no dates had been announced by 18 October 2026.
Transport, booking, crowd and accessibility details are on the main Jeju Fire Festival page, which covers every edition.
