April across Korea

All 19 festivals in April

April is cherry-blossom month. Jinhae's festival ends in the first days of April, and in Seoul the cherry trees bring festivals to Yeouiseo-ro behind the National Assembly on Yeouido and to Seokchon Lake beside Lotte World Tower, both timed to the bloom in late March or the first half of April, as are Gyeongju's stone-wall road at Daereungwon and the canola fields along Noksan-ro on Jeju. Mid-April brings azaleas on Biseulsan in Daegu and the start of three weeks among the green barley at Gochang, and Taean's tulip festival on the west coast runs from early or mid April into the first week of May, with the blooms usually at their best in mid to late April. Daejeon's science festival has been held in mid-April in recent years, and Jindo's sea road opens when the tides are lowest. The last week starts a run into May with the Hampyeong Butterfly Festival, the Jeonju International Film Festival and the Namwon Chunhyang Festival, and the lotus-lantern season begins in Seoul ahead of Buddha's Birthday, with the Yeon Deung Hoe parade on a Saturday in late April or May.

Tip. April weekends are the busiest of the spring for domestic travel; weekday visits are far calmer.
