July is hot, wet and loud. Daegu's chicken-and-beer festival fills Duryu Park in the first week, while the Daegu International Musical Festival plays its last shows. Boryeong's mud festival opens on Daecheon Beach on a Friday in the second half of the month, and from the last Saturday of July Jangheung holds nine days of water fights on the Tamjin River. At the turn of August, Jeju's Iho Tewoo beach festival takes a weekend, the Pentaport rock festival takes over Songdo in Incheon, and Hwacheon's tomato festival sends visitors into a pool of tomatoes to hunt for gold rings.
