Venue this year. The main stage moved from the Gangguan culture square to Hansan Daecheop Plaza; other sites were Yi Sun-sin Park and Mujeon-daero. The city ran sprinkler trucks and handed out free ice water against the heat.

  • 9 Aug (morning)national turtle-ship rowing race on Jungnimman bay, 297 students in 27 local school teams
  • First 'Tonight Tongyeong' fireworks over the sea in front of Hansan Daecheop Plaza, billed as the largest in Gyeongsangnam-do
  • Hansan battle reenactment with about 100 boats in the crane-wing formation; departure ceremony, gate-guard review, Samdo navy camp and Tongjesa procession, Joseon navy martial-arts demonstration
  • EDM water bomb, flyboard water media show, water park, youth dance contest, KBS National Singing Contest (Tongyeong round), street parade and victory celebration tavern

Notes on the 2024 edition

Run by the Tongyeong Hansan Daecheop Culture Foundation (통영한산대첩문화재단) with support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Gyeongsangnam-do, KTO and the Navy.

About the festival

The Tongyeong Hansan Daecheop Festival (통영한산대첩축제) is a free summer festival around the old harbour of Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do, marking Admiral Yi Sun-sin's 1592 sea victory off Hansan Island with a naval procession, a battle reenactment on the water and fireworks over the sea. First held in 1962, its 65th edition ran 12–16 August 2026; the 66th is expected in early to mid-August 2027, around the 14 August anniversary, with dates not yet announced. Entry is free (a few activities charge), and Tongyeong is about 4 hours from Seoul by express bus (₩42,200).
