What it is like
Taean, the county on the peninsula that juts into the West Sea south-west of Seoul, has staged a spring tulip show every year since 2012. Its Korean name, 태안 세계튤립꽃박람회, means 'Taean World Tulip Flower Expo'; in the late 2010s it was billed as the Taean World Tulip Festival, the name most English sources still use. It is a privately run, ticketed garden show rather than a street festival: Korea Flower Park grows bulbs bought from the Netherlands and plants them by the million in patterned beds, with flower sculptures, character photo zones, food trucks and stalls selling local farm produce. The World Tulip Summit named it one of the world's five top tulip festivals in 2015 and again in 2017.
The venue has moved, which matters when you plan. The early editions (2012–2016) were held at Nature World in Mageompo, Namyeon-myeon. From 2017 to 2025 the show was on Anmyeondo island at Korea Flower Park, about 100,000 m² of province-owned land beside Kkotji Beach that once hosted the 2002 Anmyeondo International Flower Expo. In 2026 the province and county used the Kkotji grounds for the Taean International Horticulture & Healing Expo (25 April–24 May 2026), so the tulip expo went back to Nature World, about 13 km to the north in a straight line. The autumn 2026 flower expo is also at Nature World, and the 2027 venue has not been announced.
The 2026 edition ran from 1 April to 6 May. The main beds were laid out after the gardens of Versailles, the organizer said it had planted more new tulip varieties than ever before, and a giant new sculpture was unveiled as a landmark. Daytime hours were 09:00–18:00. Nature World also runs the Taean Light Festival, an LED garden switched on after sunset all year, and visitor blogs report that the grounds reopened from 19:00 to 21:30 during the tulip season.
Adult tickets have cost ₩14,000 since at least 2023; in 2025 and 2026 seniors and groups paid ₩12,000 and children and teenagers ₩11,000. Honest caveats: Taean has no train station, so without a car you need an express bus to Taean and then a taxi; the blooms depend on the weather, and in the first days of April many beds are still closed; and the gardens are open ground on the coast, with little shade or shelter.
Highlights
- Millions of tulips: about 2.7 million bulbs plus 1.4 million other spring flowers in 2025, and around 250 tulip varieties in some 100 colours in 2024
- Named one of the world's five top tulip festivals by the World Tulip Summit in 2015 and 2017
- 2026 garden modelled on Versailles, with a giant new sculpture and a partnership with the Dutch tulip-content company IGMPR Services B.V.
- Peak bloom in mid to late April; the organizer forecast 15–25 April for 2026
- Taean Light Festival at Nature World: an LED garden of millions of bulbs lit after sunset every day of the year
- Kkotji Beach and the Halmi-Halabi rocks, Taean's classic sunset view, about 13 km south of Nature World and right beside the 2017–2025 venue
Who it suits. Best for photographers, couples and families who want a large, colourful spring garden on the coast, and for travelers combining tulips with Anmyeondo's beaches and sunsets on an overnight trip; less suited to anyone wanting a cultural festival with a stage programme, or to travelers without a car hoping for a quick day out, since the venue is a taxi ride from Taean's bus terminal.
Getting there
From Seoul
Express bus from Seoul Express Bus Terminal (Central City, Honam Line side) to Taean Public Bus Terminal: about 16 departures a day, scheduled at about 2 h 07 m, ₩17,200 deluxe (₩11,700 on the one regular-class run) as of October 2026. Nature World on Mageompo-gil lies a little over 10 km south of Taean town on the road towards Anmyeondo; take a taxi from the terminal. Seoul Nambu Terminal also has intercity buses to Taean. Driving takes about 2–2.5 hours via the Seohaean Expressway. If a later edition returns to Korea Flower Park at Kkotji Beach, take the Central City–Anmyeondo express instead (4 a day as of October 2026, about 2 h 28 m, ₩20,900) and a short taxi ride from Anmyeon terminal. Check departure times for your date at the terminal or on the bus booking site.
Festival shuttle
No festival shuttle from Seoul or from Taean terminal was documented for 2026. Inside the grounds a paid electric cart tour ran (a few thousand won), and Korail weekend day-trip packages combined the expo with Anmyeondo sights (blog-reported; no fare given).
Getting home
Taean has no train station. Express buses run from Taean Public Bus Terminal back to Seoul Central City and Dong Seoul (about 2 h 30 m–3 h), and intercity buses to Seoul Nambu; last departures differ by terminal, so check the last bus back at Taean terminal or on the bus booking site before the festival day. The expo closed at 18:00 in 2026; staying for the evening light show (to 21:30) needs a car or a night in Taean.
Parking
Free parking at Nature World, with about 729 car and 85 large-vehicle spaces per KTO data (a 2026 visitor confirmed it was free). The Kkotji Beach site used until 2025 lists about 2,667 car and 150 bus spaces, also free.
How to switch Naver Map and Kakao Map to English
Google Maps shows train, subway and bus routes in Korea but not walking or driving directions yet, so for the walk from the station Naver Map or Kakao Map is more reliable.
Before you go
1330 · Travel hotline
The Korea Tourism Organization’s helpline answers in English, Japanese and Chinese around the clock, and in several other languages from 08:00 to 19:00. Dial 1330 from a Korean phone, or +82-2-1330 from a phone registered abroad.
112 / 119 · Emergencies
112 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Both are free from any phone. Police on 112 can add an English or Chinese interpreter to the call.
T-money card
Buy one at a convenience store such as GS25, CU or 7-Eleven and top it up there with cash. It pays for subways and buses in most cities, and for most taxis.
Maps
Use Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking and bus directions; Google Maps does not yet give walking directions in Korea. Both apps can be switched to English. Naver Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → Language (Japanese and Chinese also available). Kakao Map: Menu (≡) → Settings → App settings → Language. If the option is missing, change your phone’s language and reopen the app. Small shop names and some reviews stay in Korean.
Trains and buses
Book trains on Korail’s English site and express buses on Kobus. Holiday weekends sell out first.

Before or after the festival
Places you can fit in before or after the festival without missing the shuttle or the last train or bus back.
A year-round LED light garden at Nature World, the 2026 tulip venue: the grounds are lit with millions of bulbs after sunset to walk at night. It only fits if you came by car or stay the night in Taean: in 2026 the grounds closed 18:00–19:00 and reopened until 21:30 (blog-reported), and there is no shuttle back to Taean town. It has its own ticket, about ₩10,000 for adults (KTO data). Tip: the lights stay off in rain, and if 2027 returns to Kkotji Beach this is about 13 km away.
Getting there: Same grounds as the 2026 expo (Nature World, 200 Mageompo-gil); no transport needed, separate ticket of about ₩10,000
- Getting awayAfter
Nature World is a little over 10 km from Taean Public Bus Terminal, with no festival shuttle and no documented bus, so the way out is a taxi back to the terminal. Most visitors leave at the 18:00 close, so arrange your taxi before then, and check the last bus to Seoul at Taean terminal or on the bus booking site before you go. Staying for the evening light garden needs a car or a night in Taean.

Entry is paid. Adult tickets usually cost about ₩12,000–14,000, with online early-bird tickets (bought at least a day ahead) at the lower end; seniors 65+, groups, veterans, active-duty soldiers, severely disabled visitors, children and teenagers pay about ₩11,000–12,000; under 36 months free. 2027 prices are not announced; past prices are listed under each edition.
When are the tulips at their best?
Usually mid to late April. The organizer forecast 15–25 April for 2026, and in 2024 full bloom was expected around 15 and 27 April. On the opening days in early April many beds may not be open yet.

Is there a night show?
Nature World runs the Taean Light Festival, an LED garden lit after sunset all year (about ₩10,000 for adults per KTO data). During the 2026 tulip expo, blogs report the grounds reopening 19:00–21:30 after an 18:00–19:00 break; whether the tulip ticket covered the evening was not confirmed. The lights stay off in rain. What we could not confirm

- The organizer's site (koreaflowerpark.com) could not be opened, so the official English name, 2026 night hours, ticket inclusions and any 2027 notice were not read from it.

- 2024 tulip count conflicts: 1.5 million (county preview) vs about 2.6 million (JoongAng Daily, TV Report).
- No official visitor totals found for 2024–2026; the latest figure is about 300,000 for 2023.
- Whether WAUG/TimeTicket online tickets accept foreign cards and phone numbers.
- Bus times are from the October 2026 national timetable as shown by a third-party mirror; fares on the mirror changed between September and October 2026 (Taean–Central City ₩15,700 to ₩17,200), and spring 2027 timetables may differ.
- Last bus back to Seoul from Taean (and from Anmyeondo) on the festival dates under the timetable in force that day.
- Taean Light Festival hours and ticket for spring 2027, and whether it runs during the tulip expo: the KTO listing (opened 31 Oct 2026) gives ₩10,000 but a 2025 run period and no hours; its homepage was not opened.
- Whether taxis wait at Nature World at the 18:00 close, and how to call one there, were not verified.
