Notes on the 2025 edition
Postponed from 30 May–1 June because early voting (29–30 May) and the presidential election (3 June) overlapped it. The main programme on 21 June (international fireworks, stage and drone show) was cancelled a few hours before the start under a heavy rain advisory; the daily fireworks on 20 June went ahead. Kyungbuk Maeil reported the city had spent ₩2.4 billion. Pohang later staged a separate fireworks and drone show for the APEC summit at Yeongildae Beach on Wed 29 Oct 2025 from 19:30 (15 minutes of fireworks from a barge, about 1,000 drones).
About the festival
The Pohang International Fireworks Festival (포항국제불빛축제) is a free three-day festival on the waterfront of Pohang, Korea's steel city in Gyeongsangbuk-do, held since 2004 and built around an international fireworks show over the sea, with a street parade and, in recent years, drone shows and concerts. The 2026 edition runs Thursday 19 to Saturday 21 November, moved from its planned June slot because of the local elections: an opening media-art lighting ceremony at Songdo Pier on 19 November, a fireworks street parade on 20 November and the international fireworks show over Yeongildae Beach on 21 November, 20:00–21:00, with teams from France, Japan and Korea. From Seoul, take the KTX to Pohang Station (about 2 h 20 m–2 h 30 m) and a taxi or bus to the beach, and plan to stay the night, as a train back after the 21:00 finish is not reliable.
Transport, booking, crowd and accessibility details are on the main Pohang International Fireworks Festival page, which covers every edition.
